In short: I'd rate it highly if you turned at 1/2 day and ran back to edinburgh.. In full: I did this race in 2011, + Edinburgh is a good city + T Shirt is really good (one of the top ones i have !) + Numbers are posted ahead of time..(so you dont have to worred about getting tired and hastled the day before) - walking 2 miles from the finish to the buses..(i'm not kidding!) - waiting 20 mins for my baggage(i did 309.. dunno what it was like further down the field) but maybe that was becuase they were only just sorted from the half.. - not enough water stops - course is right on course.. it is flat. but when is it not windy by the sea.. i'd suspect it is always windy for this race..(but maybe / maybe not).. - there is an gravel section + lots of toilets at the start..(but then they said if they catch u peeing in the bushes they take your number so their better be!!! + quick start.. (we for the 3:30 and faster.) as their are two starts. so.. for me.. they really need to finish this race in the city centre - for organisation..i gave 2 is that it was very windy and a few barriers were knocked over by the wind.. they should have know this.. the weather was forcasted all week( i noted at least 2 runners knocked over).. I think edinburgh is like cardiff... they want a marathon but dont want the city centre closed.. Date of review: November 15, 2011

In short: Organisation not as good as last year In full: I did the Edinburgh last year and enjoyed it so much i was keen to do it again this year. I was so dispointed with the organisation this year.I got to the start in a Taxi from the B&B iwas staing in. The Taxi driver told me the organisers had not told them which roads were shut and were to drop any runers so we were dropped a long way from the start and i sore at least 3 other taxis droping in the same place. The start was good and i enjoyed the race itself but the Finish was a disaster.Last year at the finish the spectaters were grate but it was such a dispointment not to have them at the end.also last year the goody bags were ready sorted into sizes and so quing was to the minmum.I can not beleve the organisers have ever ran a marathon or they would know after 26.2 miles the last thing you want to do is stand in a que.I will probaly do it again next year but hope the organisers take on bord some of the coments made. In short: Thoroughly enjoyable, only moan is course gets bit lonely at the beginning of final third, but once on way back in the crowds don`t let you down and the finish in front of the stand makes it all worth while. Date of review: March 12, 2011

In short: Terrible organisation. Boring unimaginative route ( given the possibilities in and around Edinburgh). Finish is shambolic In full: The outer point of this uninspiring loop must go down as one of the great disappointments in my life. I love Edinburgh and have run it's streets, parks and hills extensively - this route does the city and it's people no favours Depress Date of review: March 6, 2011

In short: Disappointng organisation and a route that misses much of the best of Edinburgh. In full: Organisation could be much better. The start of the race was poorly signposted;distance markers were lacking;clocks showing the race time were few,if any,;water stations were insufficient, particularly at the end;official parking at Mussleburgh was an absolute shambles, marshals did not arrive on time to open the car park!;the meeting place at the end was chaos and the so called beer festival was one tiny beer tent with queues where poeple waited half an hour to be served. I was disappointed overall.Edinburgh offers so much as a location for a marathon but is being spoilt by poor organisation.Perhaps the city council should take it over and make it a marathon they can be proud of. In short: I achieved my PB! This race was third time for me. I love Edinburgh Marathon, though the race day was very hot, and walk to the shuttle bus station was too long, around 30 minutes. Date of review: July 22, 2010

In short: not really edinburgh, but great local support In full: rapid exit from edinburgh, fantastic support from the locals - very welcome showers on a very hot day. Goes without saying about the bus back to the start. Please take note for next year and will do it again. Date of review: July 6, 2010
