In short: Very enjoyable
In full: I really enjoyed it. Great marshalls and interesting course. Really disappointed about the goody bag though. Would have loved a t'shirt or a medal. Please bring it back for next year!!!

In short: If u like muddiness!!
In full: I'm glad I've done the race, although it wasn't quite what I expected. What I didn't expect was miles and miles of muddy trail, about 12/15. My trainers were so heavy with mud. I had to walk alot because it was quite slippery. It was more like a x-country. Thankfully, the weather was quite nice. I was pleased to see the finish line. Would I do it again, certainly not but as I've said, I'm glad I've done it. Some people loves it, some don't; this is not my cup of tea!

In short: Challenging in places, good marshalls, train for distance though.
In full: Very cold day to start, quite muddy difficult in places especially on camber. Need more water stations,& jelly babies. Everyone friendly, missed the hot tea afterwards though due to showers/changing rooms at the school.

In short: Do not miss this late January run
In full: Firstly, fantastic organisation. I feel this could be construed as a little biased, as Benfleet is my club, but why lie?

This was my first time at this event in nearly 10 years of running, and I'm hooked. The weather was kind this year (dry but cold), but the course was still sticky in places, particularly between miles 8 and 9. The good old Essex clay stuck to your shoes, like that well known blanket adhesive.

The start is flat and gentle, with the hills kicking in big time after 5 1/2 miles. By mile 10, you're back on the flat and cruising for home. Do not underestimate the effort required on the hills, the mud stuck to your feet alone requires huge effort to run, and it stays with you for the rest of the race - hence the lead legs at the end.

More water stops would have been nice personally, but other runners I spoke to were happy, so I guess it's a personal thing. I really liked the bag storage - the lady watches out for you, and as all the bags are marked with your race number, she hands it to you - a really nice touch.

I too felt a little disappointed with the lack of t-shirt. Yes, I have dozens of the things, but would have liked one, as you can advertise your success/misery. That said, the goody bag was ok, and I'll probably use the ID tag which was a thoughtful alternative to 'yet another t-shirt' (which is fine if you already have a Benfleet 15 t-shirt).

In short: A prize windburnt face and wincing from worse than post marathon legs were worth the sense of acheivement from completing this challenging, windy, freezing, well marshalled course worth it!

In short: Cold, windy, and challenging......
In full: I almost stopped after 4 miles, but thought that as I'd done the training, the pain would be worth boasting the 2006 T-Shirt.........but was mistaken. Thanks to all the happy marshalls!
