In short: Amatuer organisation and administration, route OK, runners and marshalls OK, directions by car to venue were very poor. Chip timer not adequately explained, finish poorly laid out. Not enjoyable.
In full: Directions poor, Jnc 38 of M1 DOES NOT SIGNPOST Haigh, I saw Barnsley exit which is wrong, should be Wolley, got lost, late, infuriating!!!!!! That is shockingly bad htey don't know or test their own directions by car. What changing facility - shool gym changing rooms locked so good job I'd put my shorts on at home. Marshalls good to be fair. Atmosphere OK, chip thing MUST be on ankle rather than should be, I didn't know, wore on my wrist then hey presto not logged and I don't appear on results!! Angry or what. Then their website is awful, no easy or abvious way to e-mail complaints or feedback, Thanks vey miuch Runners World for having this facility. Get my say. Cost inconsistent on your website, says £4 for affliated, I paid them £6.50 direct, shouldn't it be the other way round? The finish was very poorly laid out, big school playing field and they position everything together, sensible person would allow long queue space to collect drinks then T-shirts rather than the amatuer organisation they had. Laughable.

In short: Good race that's always worth coming back to do.
In full: I have done this race for 4yrs now. Organisation and marshalls were plenty. Toilet provision has improved by having access to the hall. Disapointed by the chip timing. It was not really accurate as no mat to run over and start was not apparent. Those of us near the back did not know it had actually started. It was good to get an instant result! The hill at start and end were ok but forgot about the sneaky one in the middle. Get chip timing sorted and it will remain a good race. Thank you.

In short: Don't you just love that hill at the start!
In full: Once the first mile is out of the way and you are past the coking plant the scenery improves considerably. This also gives you worst hill of the race.
My 15 year old son did this race as his first ever 10K and, despite the poor weather, seemed to enjoy it. Pleasant enough at the back of the field and a lot of supportive marshalls.

In short: PB potential if you don't mind hills!
In full: One of my favourite races of the year; people dont like the uphill finish but theyre forgetting the two mile downhill section that precedes it! Fast, challenging course with excellent marshals who cheer you on (one even shouted out positions to the runners near the front). Didnt have any problems with the start but I was near the front and so heard the marshal shout 'go', maybe the runners further back couldn't hear? If so that needs to be addressed. Yes there was a tight corner at the finish but I was moving a fair bit and it didnt cause me too many problems. All in all a great race, thanks to Barnsley AC & all concerned, maybe use a gun / loudspeaker next year?

In short: Yorkshire runners walk on water - we had to!!
In full: No sunstroke for any of the hundreds that braved this excellent race. Agree with others, I wasn't sure we'd started either, so my own timing was to pot, but hey, who's perfect. Course was "tasty",inclines just when you didn't need them. Bravo to the marshalls, all wrapped up, braving the elements to give directions and (much needed) support. T-shirt good value. If I can escape S.Wales again,I will be back next year .

In short: Good race on a very cold miserable day.
In full: I thought the race was very good value for money with a nice tshirt and was well organised apart from the start and finish which were a bit strange. A big thank you to the marshalls who I thought were very supportive especially around the five mile point on the very long hill when I really needed some encouragement. I'll definetly be back next year when hopefully the weather will be a bit nicer.

In short: good tough course, well organised but minor glitches
In full: This is a course of two halves. The first is mainly flat or downhill, the second mainly uphill with a long slog after 4.5 miles. I did the first half in 22 mins, the second in 26!
The organisation at the civic hall was good and efficient. The start, however, was a mess. There was no gun or hooter, and no indication where the start line actually was. When everyone started walking slowly, we thought we were walking to the start. It took about about a minute to realise that the race had actually started.
Also, the finish could have been better. There was no Finish sign and the race just seemed to stop after turning a tight corner. The queue for the T-shirts was spilling over into the finish zone as well, which made things even messier.
If the start and finish could be improved, this would be an excellent, testing race.

In short: A day of two halfs..
In full: Firstly, a big thanks to Barnsley AC for organising the event. Good to have an race like this in a very sparse winter event calendar but a few 'tweeks' next year would majorly improve things.
The directions sent out with the race number caused some issues as when we reached the suggested 'turn off' from the M1 the sign post we were supposed to look out for did not exist. We then did a 15 mile detour before spotting a sign for Royston.
The registration area was well organised and very efficient so top marks for that and there seemed to be a reasonable amount of toilet facilities.
Unfortunately, the start was a complete farce with no visible sign of where the start line was and from where I was standing no signal that we had even started!
Good stewarding on the course and a an 'undulating' route although the seemingly never- ending up hill section between mile 4 and 5 was cruel.
End of the race again confusing with what seemed like two timing mats and very little warning of how close you were to the finish when you came around the last corner.
Think I did a personal best by over two minutes but not sure as don't know exactly where the start was!
Will be back next year, hopefully the few small issues will have been sorted out by then.
