In short: Nice two lap road race. Good value! In full: This is the third year I've done this race. It has a nice friendly atmosphere and not too busy. Usually use it as a hard paced training run for the spring marathons.
Only gripe is the start, which is let's say - slightly chaotic - for the first couple of miles with lots of weaving past slower runners. I think moving the start further down the road so you come out of the school at the back of the start might alleviate some of the issues, as you'd have to actively move forward to get the front.
Also (although not really the organisers fault!) some of the passing cars were slightly less than helpful. Date of review: February 14, 2016
In short: Excellent event In full: Fairly flat course, efficient baggage stow, changing rooms, plenty of loos ... organization excellent. The start is crowded and the first few miles are a bit busy but nothing too bad. Great medal and goody bag. And handy for public transport (trains) - which matters for non-drivers like me. Excellent all round. Date of review: February 14, 2016
In full: Brilliantly organised, great race HQ where you could be under cover if you wanted to be. Loved the race t-shirts you could buy with everyone's names, and the cake sale! Goody bag full of useful things. Only "gripes" (and this is down to race location) is the car park is a good 15 minute walk away, which could lead to mad dash to get to the start or a very painful stagger back. Course is on very pretty country roads but they did get a bit dull after a while - this is very much a training run feel rather than race feel. That aside, loved this race. In short: Great organisation by Reading Roadrunners! In full: Reading Roadrunners put on a superb race, from administration, through well organised car parking and race instructions, to the race itself, finishing with a nice goodie bag and good memento (a shiny plate rather than a typical medal). A great atmosphere, an event for experienced runners as well as newcomers. Date of review: February 16, 2015
In short: Great prep for spring marathon. In full: Loved the large shiny silver memento makes a great change from the standard medals, and something to use as a trophy instead of just shoving into a draw with the hundred other little silver coin medals. Date of review: February 16, 2015
In short: Very well organised and enjoyable race! In full: A very well organised and friendly race. Marshalls were all very helpful. A little disappointed with the ashtray at the end. Prefer the medal we had last year if Im honest but this is not the be all and end all. Defintitely will be back next year. Date of review: February 16, 2015
In short: I keep coming back...but this year, wot, no medal?! In full: A friendly, inclusive race, with the full range of abilities. Well organised, and friendly and supportive marshalls. Major disappointment this year was the rather odd 'tin coaster' memento, which replaced the expected medal (and these are usually lovely - love the roadrunner logo!). Much discussion amongst my running club, mainly negative - please, please Reading Roadrunners, have a rethink for next year. I know it's not the be all and end all, but we do love our running bling!
