In short: Firm but fair.
In full: Tried this 3 years earlier on the back of no training - it was terrible. Tackled agian with some decent banked miles and it was a great event. Hard and hilly for 6 miles and then relatively down hill or flat onwards. Great local support and a race that has everything in my opinion.

In short: For a half with such a long hill to start with this was great! Freezing cold but spectators still made it to the top to support! Made it very special, well done everyone who helped!

In short: The 'Hilly Hastings Half' strikes again!
In full: This was my eighth participation in a row. Why? Because it is such a magnificent race, and a better half marathon is hard to find, in my view. The organisation was superb as always, so once again a great many thanks to Hastings Lions Club. They will need more support next year as Hastings Borough Council and Spar will no longer be able to give full support, for reasons best known to them.

Many thanks to the marshals, police, drinks station volunteers and everyone who had to stand there in the bitterly cold weather, so unusual for this time of year. I loved the Grey Owl horse brass, a wonderful memento. Next year is the 30th Anniversary of this wonderful race, so yours truly will be back, make no mistake. Wonderful crowd support along the way too, I nearly cried when I saw those dear physically handicapped patients from Mary House along the Ridge, watching the race go by and enjoying it as far as they could do so. Bless them. Thank you all, and once again to Hastings Lions Club for all their efforts year on year. Long may it continue.

In short: Amazing support
In full: 4th time and it gets better each year.(maybe because I managed a PB this time.) Its very well organised and the crowd support couldnt be better. One of the colder runs of the year but fine once warmed up. The free hot tea at the end was very much appreciated.

In short: Awesome
In full: This has to be the best hm i've done.......actually its the only hm i've done, in fact its my first race ever lol. However, i had an amazing time despite the freezing conditions. Proud to say my home town support was fantastic, music, jelly babies and oranges along the way. Flippin hilly, but hey I live here, so no real surprise and what goes up must come down. I will be back!

In short: The old ones are the best
In full: Yes it was cold. Yes it was hilly. Yes, the park and ride seems to be (I got the train, so can't comment). But this race is something special. The locals come out and support, even in bad weather, handing out oranges and jelly babies and telling you this is definitely the last hill (don't believe them!) and tea on the walk back to the station. The local support, as opposed to moaning about road closures etc, has been built up over decades in this well established event and it is what makes me come back to this race. I'll be back again. On the train, of course.

In short: The marshals and other volunteers should all be given medals for being out in that cold!
In full: Wonderful race and good to run it without having to worry about sun burn for once! Thank you to everyone involved in the race for braving the cold and making it a special day. If you have never done Hastings, you really should. It has to be one of the best half marathons in the country.

In short: Loved this half
In full: My first time running Hastings half and it really lived up to my expectations. Brilliant race, loved every minute of it. There are a lot of hills, but I did plenty of hill training beforehand and was prepared for a lot worse than what it actually was. Once you get past the 9 mile mark it is all downhill or flat from there and after 5 miles the worst is over. It was bitterly cold, but people still came out to support and hand out jelly babies and oranges. I ran the London Marathon last year and, although smaller, the support is much the same in Hastings. It was a bit bottle necked at the end of the race and I have no idea where the post race drinks were, but apart from that can't complain.
I'm not the fastest runner, my PB on a half is 1:56:00 and I got 1:59:45 on this one, which I was very pleased with considering my slow pace up the hills and the coldness. I would have been happy anything sub 2:10 after what I read when I booked my place. Definitely will be back next year - thanks Hastings!
