In short: Once is enough for anyone In full: Jeeezz why do people love this race? It's hilly, really poorly supported considering the route it takes. The route is one big undulation along a dual cariageway for 10 miles. BOOORRRRIIINNNGGGGG
Tranfer bus got lost from car park to race start, took 1.5 hours and we missed the baggage bus. No pen control whatsoever. I stood next to a banana in the elite pen, approx 10 metres fomr the start line.
Race is dull, dull, dull, dull never again. Date of review: October 24, 2005

In short: My first 1/2 marathon - great race cannot wait to do it again!! In full: It is true what they are saying on here the dodging people etc is really soul destroying. They should have a seperate begining line further back in the same way that the people who have run for 10yrs or so have and be supervised by Marshalls. It could be done in stages e.g expected time sub 2hrs, sub 3hr, sub 4 and fun runners/walkers This should be explained when entering. I know it wont stop all of them but a little organisation in this area would be for the better. Apart form that its an excellent race and cannot wait to do it again!! Date of review: July 15, 2005

In short: great fun but make sure you train and dont go too quick at the start. In full: my first half marathon, had a great time, all the trainning was worth while and was so well organised. the finish at south shields was amazing. one of my best memories (and major buzz) was the red arrows flying low over the tyne bridge as we ran over it. i even joined the great north run organisation so i can have a place for next three years.
