In short: Great atmosphere In full: Enjoyed the experience of the Great North Run, atmosphere great and finish of race, scenic although rest of run, obviously industrial. Glad to say I've done it once, but that's my lot Date of review: January 2, 2009

In short: This is an experience - forget PB (unless in first pen!) and enjoy! In full: Yes it's crowded but what an experience. So long as you have trained for it just relax and enjoy - save PB for another day!! I have run it 12 times and luckily never further back than pen 5 - and I stay in South Shields Saturday and Sunday nights - so my experiences have been hassle free. Not the cheapest race to enter but the organisation is superb. Minor moan: when are BUPA T shirts going to be "wicking/technical". Date of review: November 5, 2007

In short: PB getter maybe not but this is an 'event' as well as a run and as that and also for the feel good, support and general atmosphere this is tremendous In full: I agree with some comments re the size of the field if you are looking at a Half PB then there may be better out there. But really this is an 'event' as well as a run and as that and also for the feel good, support and general atmosphere this is tremendous. I don't think there's a lot to be done about it but it's obvious most people are either optimistic or downright taking the proverbial with predicted times and thats a shame, but still the start organisation this year was very good (even if because of the weaving past people you end up doing half marathon and then some:-)Great event great organisation for the field size and great day. In short: Too many people for the circuit! In full: The Great North Run was ruined for me by the sheer weight of traffic, it was impossible to make any headway through the thousands of people. People were totally unrealistic in their predicted times leading to a frustrating race. The organiser need to reduce numbers and make the GNR a better race and more than an oversized fun run for charity joggers/walkers. I am not sure what all the fuss is about to be honest. In short: My 5th GNR and worst time ever. Didn't train properly. In full: I love this race!I have only myself to blame for the slow time, but once I accepted that my time was going to be a Personal Worst I enjoyed myself. I walked, I jogged, I ran and met some inspirational people in the process. The last mile is a killer but it was my quickest mile of the day!!! There did seem to be fewer toilets at the start, but we arrived early so there was no problem, goody bag a bit disappointing, but if you did Bristol you wouldn't complain! The walkers at the start were a pain and when I walked I did try to keep out of the runners way, sorry if I impeded anyone, but I got to 9 miles before walking. You can't blame the organisers for the cost of travel, accommodation or parking, this is beyond their control. I will do it again next year, crossing the Tyne Bridge with the red Arrows flying overhead always brings a lump to my throat, (I'm an expat geordie) and will continue to do so as long as I can stand. Shaking Sir Bobby's hand also brought a lump to my throat; a great man! Well done Tyneside!!!!! Date of review: October 25, 2007

In short: still buzzing now! In full: was just everything i wanted it to be and more. Was quite frightened by the sheer scale of it (the scenery only gets a 5 btw for the bridge and the support along the was as a lot of it is dual carriageway)but just amazing, was so pleased with the entire day.
