In short: London's answer to Medoc marathon In full: really enjoyed the scenic rolling hills, which are all runnable. fast trail one (if one exists). water/wine/gel stations were frequent, staffed by uber friendly marshals. loved the downhill finish!
bbq and band made it a nice day out for family and friends. i hope they will add veggie option for next year and a table of red/white of wine tasting!
good addition to the uk marathon calendar. Date of review: September 14, 2010
In short: Expensive but good race with some nice touches In full: It is an expensive day - especially by the time you take home a couple of bottles of wine! However, good t-shirt and medal, nice glass of wine and BBQ bap included, family fun day kept my kids entertained for best part of 4 hours it took me to get round, nice atmosphere, the course being on north downs and a sunny day was beautiful and they had done well to flatten as much as they did. It would be good though to have this on a Saturday. Date of review: September 13, 2010
In short: A welcome edition to the marathon calendar In full: A most enjoyable cross country race with a number of different distances. I chose the marathon & for a cross country route, was delighted that I broke my pb and came in well under 4 hours.
The Good Bits
Smashing scenery & interesting course; The hills were playful and all runable; Marshalls were brilliant, plenty of drink & gels at each feed station; More than enough feed stations on what was a warm day; Lovely venue for a race; Quality vest & medal; Good signage; Sufficient toilets at start & plenty of parking; Mile markers.
Where Improvements can be made
On the pricey side, which will deter some. Was less than 60 starters for the marathon; Don't really like two lap courses & out & backs - but the views were so nice that this was a minor niggle; No mention of the barbecue or signs at the end. When I got back to my car I remembered there was one & after asking found it. Whilst I am happy to queue, the queue was very long & more staff were needed. Also for a marathon - there should have been a separate queue just for us. I waited for ages behind too many children & their parents. Legs far too tired. I gave up in the end & missed my drink & nosh; The food seemed to be just one item. Not great for vegetarians! Date of review: September 12, 2010
