In short: Champion just champion
In full: Struggled in the heat and humidity in this testing undulating course.

Enjoyed the route the Don valley stadium start and finish was good however getting out of the stadium was a nightmare, not properly signposted and lack of marshals at the end. Good crowd support, confused as to running above the crowd at the end when doing a loop of the stadium and only getting 70 meters of glory on the track. Surely a lap of the track with the crowd cheering you on would be better? Half full cups of water were a problem especially when the heat was bad.

In short: A disappointing 3rd Sheffield Half for me
In full: Sheffield 2009 was where I first spotted runners from the club that I later joined, so it'll always have a special place in my heart, hence why I was doing it for the third year in a row. We were flying on holiday at 7pm that night so my husband wasn't delighted I still intended to do it, but I had thought it was worth it...

Sadly I have to echo what many other people are saying about some of the organisation this year. The lack of toilets compounded by the poorly sign-posted layout inside and out meant I missed lining up for the start and had to jump over the barrier, luckily crossing the start when only 2 mins had passed on the clock. No warm up and a terrible sense of dread meant I didn't start in the best state.

I don't mind cups as I wouldn't have wanted to carry a bottle, but the stations were not ready and not quick enough so I decided not to drink a couple of times when maybe I should have. It was lucky the date moved as normally the weather is far hotter in April. I was disappointed and annoyed, like a few other runners, to find that the sports drink station wasn't there and none at the end either. This isn't a cheap race and we were promised this is the literature as in previous years, and people had built them into their race plans. It feels like the organisers just being greedy at the expense of the runners, which is a real shame.

There are lots of good bits though - despite my horror start I did a course PB, the supporters and marshalls are wonderful and generous with their time and the medals are ace! Why not lose the t-shirt and decrease the entry fee though?

I'm still feeling rather disappointed by this so it won't be one that I automatically sign up for next year.

In short: Enjoyed it, but could be better
In full: I enjoyed this race - 2nd time I've done it - and found the uphill drags demanding in places, but nothing too bad.

Support on Eccleshall Rd was great, its just a shame there wasn't more in the City overall.

My wife ran this race for the first time, and she was just under 2 hrs, and at the end said 'Never again' - I didn't have a problem with the water stations, but she said where she was in the race, she had to wait for water/cups as there wasn't enough set up for the 'middle of the pack runners', on what was a humid day.

I enjoyed finishing in the stadium, but the tee shirt was nothing special, but I've got to say I'd do this event again - as long as the entry price doesn't go up anymore!!

In short: Best race I have ever done!
In full: You can't really fault the Sheffield half, it has everything: Excellent organisation, closed roads, good mixture of hills and flats, stadium start/finish and most of all, amazing crowd support. I finished in 1:20:11 this year for 20th place and can honestly say it is the most enjoyable race I have ever done. Credit to the course planners for picking a fantastic route, and a big thanks to the residents of Sheffield for cheering every runner onj every step of the way.

Will I be back next year? Of course!

In short: Very warm but fortunately largely flat! Great crowds on Eccleshall Road. Lots of fun.

In short: A bit dull in parts, but excellent support around the turn. Mainly flat.
In full: Starts (and finishes) at the Don Valley stadium, which is always nice - makes you feel like a 'proper' athlete, and good for spectators. Well organised generally. The exit is a little crammed, but nothing excessive, and once out of the stadium, there is a slight downhill, and then into a flat run into the town centre. Unfortunately, this a little dull - through industrial East Sheffield, and a little lacking in support there. Once into the town centre proper, the support picked up, and once past the Sheffield United ground, the crowds were linig the streets, particularly on Eccleshall Road around the turn. Once round and heading back, decent support back into the town centre, but the last 3 and a half miles or so are back to the more industrial part, and support was more patchy (though really appreciated when we got it). The finish is a little hard - you can see the stadium quite a long way before you get there, and you have to run past and round the back before you get in it. Then it is along the top of the far terracing, back out briefly and back in for the finishing straight. Sorted! Other aspects: water stations - cups are really not that helpful, but the water sponge station was good. Goody bag - hmmmm: T-shirt fairly bog standard, a cereal bar, a charity badge (?), and an offer for a gym. Not really up to standard. Marshalling was very good, and very supportive. I'll do it again, though!
