In short: Ok race, nothing to get excited about In full: I'll be honest and say don't really think the race is worth the entry fee.
Don't get me wrong I felt the organisation of it was excellent. Picking up your number the day before ran like clockwork, as did everything in the park before the race, water stations brilliant, well marshalled, and excellent water stations.
However I felt it was a really grim, un-scenic course for most of the race. Didn't find it easy to get going as the roads were quite narrow at the start meaning it was quite difficult to get past people. The baggage collection at the end for me was rather chaotic not what you really want after finishing a marathon.
In parts a great marathon and if it was around £30 it be worth it however at £55 felt it was a bit of a rip off. Date of review: May 20, 2013
In full: Although it was my PB, the start was terrible, runners only had half the road to run on so was bottle necked for the first 2miles. same as when running up the coastal road, why not have the barrier in the middle instead of leaving a tiny bit of road... i felt like i had to put more effort into running around perople then just running. but all in all was a brillant day. In short: Good introduction to marathon running In full: Really enjoyed this race, even the wicked sunburn that I got in the last 6 miles when the sun broke through!
I'd agree with previous posters that there are issues to iron out - baggage collection was a bit of a mess to be honest. There wasn't even close to enough people manning the collection lorries. Queueing for ages for your bag isn't the ideal post-race accompaniment.
Didn't see any real issues with the race village - I arrived quite late on & didn't have any toilet issues, maybe I was just lucky or inadvertantly engaged in some major league queue-jumping! (Sorry about that if I did).
Having to go to the expo the day before was a bit of an irritant, but it's standard practice for larger races (& increasingly for smaller races) to have to collect race numbers & it was advertised in advance, so no-one should have been taken by surprise.
The run itself was fantastic - the power station section has little to advertise itself with, but the rest of the course was lovely and the people of Brighton/cheer stations/bands made for an excellent and really enjoyable atmosphere and without wanting to oversell it, they really made the race what it was.
Would I do it again? Defintiely, just maybe not next year. Too many other marathons to try out first... Date of review: April 23, 2013
In short: A wonderful day in Brighton In full: I was fortunate enough to be in the white start & also managed to run a PB, so extremely pleased with these. Agree with previous comments that the crowd were absolutely brilliant, but would also have to agree that this race is seriously overpriced, especially when I only paid £28 for London last year. A friend of mine has just paid £65:30 to run next year, with £5:30 processing fee. Come on guys, for this we runners expect loads more loos & a seriously impressive goody bag. Better still lower the cost. Was also a little surprised to see only a small number of sub three runners in such a big field, which could also be based around cost! Something to consider for the organisers in what is otherwise a fantastic event. Date of review: April 23, 2013
