In short: fantastic, just what an off road event should be
In full: A great mixture of terrain with the run never allowing you to settle into your stride. A big thanks to the marshell who did a great job of keeping everybody's spirits up The atmosphere was fantastic and an event well worth turning up for on a cold wintery day

In short: Exhilarating and exhausting - but exhilaration won out ... after I'd crossed the finish line after that tortuous run for home along that pebble beach.
In full: May I just say thanks to the couple who helped me to my feet after I went flying at around the 14-mile mark (they were both wearing Ironman vests so probably found the Grizzly a walk in the park - or maybe not!).

In short: 2006 Grizzly - exceptional as usual.
In full: This was my 10th Grizzly and it was tough! AVR excelled themselves this year - hardly any of the course was really runnable! Great run, great atmosphere, brilliant support from marshalls and other helpers, and from spectators. Thank you all. Back next year.

In short: The Grizzly 2006 it's the Biz!!!!
In full: This was the first Grizzly I’ve run for a few years. So when I first stepped out my car into the blast of an icy wet wind, I had more than a slight feeling of trepidation. Those feelings were soon replaced by excitement as it began to sink in that I was lining up for the best race around! The start was slightly modified from what I remember, but still retained a section a beach. The noise of 2000 runners crunching across a pebbled beach is incredible and one I’ll never forget!

The Grizzly is the most surreal race around! Where else would find a Buddhist shrine, the mystic signs, and a skeleton of a dead sheep. I’m not sure whether the sheep was there by design, but it seemed to serve warning of what was to come!

The course it’s self as ever didn’t disappoint, with the usual mix of mud, hills and beach. Even though it was a grey misty day the scenery was a lovely as ever. My favourite part of the course was the swamp! The swamp a waist deep pit of mud reached down a helter-skelter of sludge. On the way down one of the marshals informed us the she had drove her herd of cattle though the Swamp that very morning (nice!)! Fortunately the swamp was quickly followed by an ice bath in the local stream.

The marshals were as brilliant as ever. Standing out in those conditions for hours was an endurance feat in it’s self. The glass of local real ale (lovely) before the last big climb was most appreciated

As the race when on, I seemed swing between of feelings euphoria and being totally drained. This may have been caused by an overdose of Jelly Babies and Kendal Mintcake! I could barely walk the last stretch of beach but the thought of crossing the finish line and getting my hand on a Grizzly tee shirt kept me going!

As the sign said half way up one steep hill ‘The Grizzly, it’s the biz’ ABSOLUTELY!!!!

In short: What a Brilliant Event
In full: What a challenge! The start with over 1500 runners slipping and sliding over the beach was a foretaste of things to come. If' you weren't going up you were usually going down, except of the cliff tops and beaches. Marshalls with cheery smiles with the wind whipping round them; Helpful heckling through knee deep mud, enigmatic words of wisdom on trees, fences and bushes and a nip of brandy all helped to get me to the last half-mile stretch of beach. My legs had almost seized up by then but I got there at last. No wonder this run is so over sub-scribed. DO IT!!

In short: This is a rating for 2006 race. first Grizzly for me, hope to be back again and again.
In full: It is easy to see why this race is so popular, despite being so tough. Brilliant organization, best marshalls in the world, unique course, great atmosphere, and one of the drinks stations provided beer!
