In short: As hard as it's reputation, but a fantastic challenging race to run
In full: This was my first grizzly and after being talked into it 6 months ago I had been training as hard as possible around injured achilles in order to complete it. The race is as hard as it's diamond hard reputation, with hills, mud, beach, water, hills, steps, hills and eeven more beach. Out of the 20 miles, I estimate about 2 miles that don't hammer your legs in one way or another! fantastic marshalls, superb organisation on the day and also loads of info provided pre-race so it was impossible to not get parked and to the start line on time. I take my hat off to Axe Valley Runners for organising a truly monumental event. The only down side for me was my own lack of fitness! I'll be back next year fitter and knowing a bit more about what to expect! One of my most painful buit most memorable and satisfying races to date. A classic!

In short: Real men do wear pink...............
In full: The only flat parts of this challenge is the 100 metres at the start and finish, everything else is just extremely undulating.

You don’t run this race for a PB you run to become a survivor and wear the pink shirt with pride. Congratulations Axe Valley Runners for putting on such a great event.

See you next year

In short: Bloody tough but bloody brilliant,
In full: Awesome race. So so hard but most enjoyable run I've done and very satisfying.

Highlights included:

* First half mile along the beach.
* Two chaps with guitars singing 'I will walk 500 miles' which could be heard for miles around their 4 mile point.
* Second beach, river number one and drummers.
* Man on his own, in full scottish dress playing the bagpipes.
* Three chaps with a shrine for something playing the bongos and digeridoo.
* Running through thigh high mud that sapped the energy completely.
* Running through the pub beer garden with more live music and loads of (drunk??) enthuasiastic support.
* Two more bagpipers.
* Back along the beach with the drummers.
* Up a stupidly long set of steps to the top of the cliff path.
* The final half a mile along the beach.

I could go on and on.

Would definately like to go back next year.

Final bonus: I now own my first piece of pink clothing!

In short: Brilliant Grizzly yet again.
In full: Another brilliant jaunt on the south Devon coast. One of the tougher ones, I thought all the subtle little hilss in the first half were particularly tiring. Shame the timing didn't work but I always go on my placing in the Grizzly. Got 13th March 2011 pencilled in already.

In short: Real mean do wear pink!
In full: I honestly can't remember when I enjoyed a race as much

Organisation was terrific, a marshall on every corner it seemed; apparently there were over 300 and they even managed to organise perfect blue skies.

I've heard a lot about the Grizzly from club mates but as an ultra runner I thought they were exagerating how tough it was. They weren't. It really was tough, but that is what made it for me; I mean, no point driving 200 miles for a glorified cros-country is there? This race really is in a class of its own, now I want to go back next year and do it again in bad weather (I suspect I may have a few issues).

Gripes, not really, they had problems with timing, but that's not a big deal in this sort of race. I wasn't convinced about this year's pink T-shirt, but its starting to grow on me. "Real men can wear pink"

I see the organisers are thinking of chip timing next year. My advice to them is don't (look at what happened at the Sussex beacon half)its not a PB race so chips are not essential. I can also see chips disappearing in bogs etc. Just keep doing what you've been doing and the organisers will do just fine.

I can't recommend this race highly enough

In short: Very Very Hard with Beautifull Devon Scenery & Happy Marshalls in the sunshine....
In full: The weather was good for a day on the coast with perfect running conditions .......so they made sure the courses were as hard as possible !!
I can see why this race is so raved about and now understand why they don't have any Finishers only Survivors.

In short: Hardest but THE Best
In full: This year's course hardest yet but absolutely fantastic. It just gets better and better. Marshalls are incredible, so friendly and encouraging. Organisation is second to none.
