In short: Fab day, but too hot for a first timer. Not enough water stations In full: I loved the atmosphere and send my thanks to all involved behind the scenes. The course was pretty much as described so no nasty surprises. Would have liked more water stations as it was such a hot day. See you next year, if it isn't too hot! Date of review: June 29, 2009
In short: Could be a great race, but major flaws In full: I don't want to completely slate this race, as I've run it before and enjoyed it. And there were many positives - good car parking, plentiful toilet facilities, friendly marshals, overall the new course worked. However, the start definitely needs improving to get people lining up in roughly predicted finish pace, and the congestion at the exit to the playing field was predictable. But more seriously, water and first aid at the finish were woefully inadequate. Many of my club colleagues have commented that they simply weren't able to find water at the finish. Bad enough when you're hot and tired at the end of the race, worse when you're trying to attend to someone who's collapsed with heatstroke and needs rehydrating. I needed medical attention at the finish, and while first aiders were on hand quickly, they didn't know how to deal with the situation, and it took a very long time to get ambulance assistance. While I in no way blame the organisers or anyone else for what happened to me, not having adequate medical cover at an event of this size is just not good enough. Date of review: July 3, 2008
In short: Fantasticly organised, quick race with great support In full: My first ever 10km. Great organisation from the parking, to the facilities to the road closures. Everything was very smooth. Nice route, starting on road and then on to the Phoenix trail. Next time I'll try not to start out too quickly as the downhill at the beginning made me do out too fast which hurt in the last few km. Perfectly positioned water station, and markers every kilometre. Lots of people out and about to show their support for the runners. I will be back Thankyou Thame! Date of review: July 3, 2008
In short: Third Year and love it In full: I love this race. I have done lots of 10k's and very few have no problems at all. The gate at the start is a bit to soon as it bottle necks but I am sure it will be changed for next year. The shorter hill at the end is a great plus. As for the goody bag, I must have been one of the only ones who thought it was great. The fan and torch are useful. It helps that I have a 10 year old lad who will love these little gadgets.
In short: Lighten up on Goody Bag Criticism In full: As one of the organisers of the Thame CPM 10K I do like to look at the feedback on the RW forum. Always delighted to see the positive feedback on the course, marshals, organisation and the event in general. Yes we do take on board constructive comments on how we could improve the event and build this into plans for future years - having seen the run go from 300 to over 1000 entrants, we must be doing something right. While Thame Runners organise this event, we go to other races where for more money, you get a coaster or medal at the end and that's that. However, we all race for the event and not for what we get. At the Thame 10k you get a t-shirt (yes we will get more smaller sizes in future), we offer free pre and post massage, and a range of free drinks/snacks provided by our sponsor. We paid close to £1000 for road closures. In addition our sponsor tries to get freebies from its FMCG customers to put into goody bags - and the quality/quantity varies from bag to bag as well as year to year. With the credit crunch, this year was a bit tougher. But runners, please don't look a gift horse in the mouth - this is an extra bonus on top of excellent race, t-shirt, etc etc. We could just do away with them but I'm sure more people appreciate them than not. And those who don't can just not pick them up in future. Date of review: July 1, 2008
In short: Good range of runners - not too quick for the slower ones (like me). In full: Liked the 'don't know what you're gonna get' goodie bag - seems they were all different in one way or another. Liked the T-shirt too. Date of review: July 1, 2008
