In short: Very good - 4th time in Norwich & pleased there were no gales this year! In full: I'm on old charity runner for Astro Brain Tumour Fund who has been back for the City of Norwich 4 times now. It's not too challenging as long as the winds don't blow and this year, the weather was very good for running. The atmosphere was fine and the organisation excellent. After I moaned a little about access to the Showground from Premier Inn last year, I had an e-mail this year just days before the race telling me the best route to the start line. What outstanding organisation and thoughtfulness by the organiser. Fantastic! Date of review: December 8, 2013
In short: A very well organised Half Marathon In full: A very well organised Half Marathon which is staged with the help of over 200 volunteers. This year was my 6th Norwich Half marathon on the spin and my fastest ever half marathon (knocking 4 minutes off a pervious PB). Firstly the entry price for this half marathon is very reasonable compared to other races across the country. Good facilities, clean toilets, shower, car parking, refreshments for spectators, pre and after race massage available. The route follows a two lap course through rural countryside just outside of Norwich (traffic free). The route is mainly flat with a 2 plus mile downhill section, which being a two lap course you do twice. There is a steady climb for quarter of mile on the course, but that is your only uphill! On finishing, your name is called out over the PA system (nice touch), a great bespoke medal (one of the best you will receive) and a goody bag filled with things you want after a race. Water, energy drink, mars bar, crisps, cereal bar, etc and no unwanted bits of rubbish. Having completed a number of Half Marathons across the UK in the last 5 years, this race stands up as to one of the best. Now looking forward to next year! Date of review: November 26, 2013
In short: Well organised race In full: My 2nd time running this race and I enjoyed it. The venue is good with plenty of facilities and shelter from the bitterly cold wind (although no heating). Parking was easier this year - a short walk as the venue is so huge. Heard of problems getting out but we stayed around for a long time afterwards so did not get caught up in the queues to leave.
Race is 2 laps through country roads and villages, with some stretches on closed main roads. Nice scenery. Didn't feel over crowded and good mix of runners (we were pretty near the back!).
Marshals were really excellent and very encouraging, they must have been freezing standing about in the cold for hours yet they still had a smile on their faces.
Drinks were water in cups and 1 stop for Gatorade (also in cups).
The goodybag was nice as it had plenty of food in it - always good! There was also an energy (Red Bull-style) which wasn't great for immediately after running but perfect for the long drive home when feeling tired). Medal was very nice and chunky :) Massage available afterwards for a donation to charity.
No PB for me as was running with 2 friends quite new to running so stuck at their pace but I would say this is a pretty good course for a PB (last year I got a good time here).
Will probably do it again in the future but it is quite a long way for me to travel so probably not every year. Date of review: November 26, 2013
In short: Fantastic organisation, excellent race - not as flat as you'd think a run around norfolk would be! only downside was the ban on ipods etc. Would definitely do this race again. Date of review: November 25, 2013
In short: Well organised event. Just about perfect running conditions In full: It is a two lapper but still went quickly, the run through the country areas definitely good. Excellent organisation for a big half. Well marshalled, friendly support all round the course, local people out in force in places. Date of review: November 24, 2013
