In short: Midsommer Murders with a race thrown in In full: The Elmore is one of those races that you take cynics along to and they come back year after year. It takes place as part of the Chipstead Flower Festival - dog shows, prize vegetables (the vicar always wins most of the prizes) and cream teas included. It would be a shame if there wasn't the odd murder to spice things up as this is truly middle class England at it's finest albeit a stones throw from South London and the M25. The race itself starts and finishes in the show-ground and you're definitely an integral part of the event. The course covers largely traffic-free country lanes with some rolling hills in the middle. As it's an odd distance, you'll almost certainly set a PB the first time around but it's not a slow course by any means. It takes place on a Saturday so plenty of time to recover before the long Sunday run; or like one of our club members you could have run the Bromley ParkRun at 9am, the Elmore at 2pm and the Surrey Slog the following day! In short: No gimmicks, just a very enjoyable race In full: An excellent on-road race. Having the start at the village fair made for an excellent atmosphere (with easy and close parking). Very much a no-gimmicks rural road race. Organisation was excellent and scenery was beautiful (excluding half a mile beside a main road!!). Nice to have a race on a Saturday. In short: Lovely bumpy course, great portaloos ;) In full: Lovely friendly atmosphere at the flower show, very inclusive for runners . Course truly urolling to start then flattened out, mainly around pretty country lanes . The usual bugbear of the tannoy man commenting on "serious" runners and "fun" runners. Those guys nearer the back were probably having less fun in the heat than those who stormed in first, and were equally serious about training. Rant over. It was a lovely little race, well marshalled, positions recorded by people not chips - the real grass roots of running. Thanks SLH Date of review: July 18, 2010

In short: Kebab, cake and plants galore - oh yes, and the race In full: Having this as part of the village fair/show is great. I had a pre-race kebab, a post-race cake and came away loaded down with plants and other goodies. The encouragement from people at the the fair was worth it in itself. Highly recommended - hope to be back next year. Date of review: July 17, 2010
