In short: Good Race but not sure i'd run again In full: i did 2:16, but was targetting 2:12.. so take this into account with my review..i'm at the 3hour marathon level so an average runner..
The good > small race, > no issues with crowds or getting into your race pace
the things they should consider.. > it was a warm day , I'm would have preferred another water stop (but equally almost athletes had their own water stop ! -poor show guys.. and actually against race rules too!! Either share the water to everyone or dont do it.. You only cheered on your runners and did not share water !..)
> easy race number pick up and bag store / transport that worked well
> at the start.. they should have provided mens urnals.. as that would have reduced ques.. one or two more toilets were really needed..
i found 3 laps hard work.. especially passing tail enders that were running 3 side by side.. i've fed back the turning point comments to the organisers.. so they should take those on board.. i found the course quite hard..
a very nice t-shirt well done guys.. nice one..not much else in the goodie bag but i dont need much..
In short: Not bad. In full: This was my first distance race over half marathon length since London marathon 1999 and as I intend to do a couple of full marathons this year I fought this race was a good start and I wasnt wrong the race was well marshaled with a lovely course with only one small gripe that is the mile markers wernt very accurate I was using endomondo the first mile came up to soon but the 20 mile finish line came up spot on so guess that may need looking at in future, for a low key event and paying £20 guess I cant really grumble. In short: A good run for all types of runner. In full: My first time doing 20 Miles. It was a great introduction for the longer distances for me. The race had a good atmosphere and runners of all ability were there. The course started on a business estate and went out onto country roads. The course its self was well marshalled especialy on the areas open to traffic. The finish a bit far away from the showers though. But overall a great race. Date of review: March 19, 2013
In short: A good pre-VLM 20M race. In full: A good race with just a couple of potential tune-ups. The registration/changing was a long way from the car parking and the start, but the course itself was very nice - it starts from a business park but then does three laps of mostly quiet, rural roads. There's two minor hills on each lap, but nothing murderous. The course was well marshalled and there were plenty of drinks stations and encouragement. My only real problem was the mile markers seemed inaccurate - the first 'mile' or two were short and the last 'mile' was very long - not sure about the others. This made it difficult to keep consistent mile splits without the benefit of a Garmin, which is not ideal marathon preparation. The goody bags at the finish were decent - bag, biscuits, banana and a nice flask as a memento, and thankfully the finish was closer to the car-park than the start! Date of review: March 19, 2013
