In short: Tough but fun !
In full: Steep uphill at start and an equally steep downhill later on made for a tough but enjoyable race. Fanatastic organisation with lots to do for the family at the start area. Live band and the commentator made the event great fun. Nice t-shirt and medal.

In short: Superb event and look forward to next year's race.
In full: The organisation, atmosphere and race route were all excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed the race. The hill at the start was hard work. However, once I got over that bit, I was glad to have done it and really enjoyed the rest of the race. A big thank you to all the organisers and marshalls who were great.

In short: Fun, friendly and challenging race.
In full: This was my first half marathon, and I really enjoyed it. The run was quite demanding, the intial hill is long and steep but perfectly manageable with hill training.
The crowd support was fantastic as were the marshalls. The slight incline during the last few miles is a killer and I would recommend some kind of energy drink to get you through, I was without and suffered at this point. There is also a small sneaky hill in mile 13 which was very hard.
Great race though, lots of people at the finishing line cheering you on.

In short: A great event a 'must do'.
In full: There was 'that hill' at the beginning but what about the niggling uphill climb from mile 9 'ish to mile 12 'ish? I found that as demanding as the hill at the beginning. But oh the joy of the descent onto The Rye at the end! Well done and thanks to the organisers.

In short: "Come on buddy only one mile left."
In full: Lovely race this ! Taking away what at the time seemed an endlessly steep hill in the Rye it wasn't too hot outside, but definitely not one for setting PBs after that horrendous calf-sapping first climb.
The set-up was pretty easy to get to down the hill from High Wycombe train station, and water provided in abundance along the course; mostly on tables, but at the top of the aforementioned hill/sheer precipice the cups sat on the wide concrete footpath - naturally bits of soil floated to the bottom, but that didn't stop anyone from lugging the refreshment down.
The course snaked down to Bourne End and Wooburn Green, then back up to the finish. Runners shared the lanes and roads with traffic, and it wasn't always possible for marshals to patrol the flow of participants; drivers of various vehicles seemed to be sensitive to this fact though.
The day was pretty festive especially with the presence of a little kiddies' race, plus the absence of any major hassle - adequate toilets, luggage storage (in two Grant & Stone white vans) for those travelling by public transport, and at times a slightly annoying band playing Elvis among other songs.
What's great about this event is its value; countless others have remarked on this time and again: chip-timing on the reverse of your number, medal, T-shirt, apple and orange, pen, Mars bar, lollipop, and an extra type of fizzy candy I remember from my childhood in Suffolk. All for eleven or so pounds sterling ! Also, unlike 2007's Sussex Beacon Half the various helpers made it clear where you could recycle your number, specifically the chip on the flip side. Incredibly, some weeks out I was pleasantly surprised to receive a booklet with all the relevant details/schedule for the run. As Glenn Mederos has sung "You don't have to change a thing, I love you just the way you are... Nothing's gonna change my love for you, you ought to know by now how much I love you...I'll never ask for more than your love."

In short: Bit difficult to judge as a first-time racer but really enjoyed and seemed well organised. Shame about that hill....

In short: Definitely worth the drive!
In full: Thoroughly enjoyed the race, once we had climbed up the first hill! I shall wear the T-shirt with pride! Very well organised, plenty of friendly marshalls and our thanks go to the 'sweep' who stayed with us for a few miles to make sure that we were OK. Fantastic value - must do again next year!

In short: Well organised friendly event with plenty of water!
In full: This was my second half marathon and I was hoping for sub 1.30 but just missed it. But then this is a tough course with a steep hill a the start.

Still it is very enjoyable with support all the way round and the big speaker commentating as you come in. Lots of water stations with sponges that kept me going.

Everything ran like clockwork, except getting some of the results out at the end for the prizes, although this only affected a few club runners!
