In short: a fantastic multiple terrain race from the severn vale rising up to the cotswold escarpment , one big climb at midpoint then some genuine cross country with a splash 1 mile out Date of review: December 6, 2005

In short: A run I always love and come back for. In full: I have marked the Slog down this year. This is mainly caused by the ditch - I was assured at the beginning that it would improve on last year, but it was worse. As one of the people who was directed round the ditch by the marshalls, I object strongly to the shouts of 'cheat', I always want to do a full event and don't like shortcutting, and it is not good to have fellow runners shout at you. The other problem was that, as a slow runner, by the time I got back there were no medium T shirts left, so I got a hat. As the entry form asks what size T shirt everyone wants, I can't see why we didn't get what we ordered. They did look good and I would have worn it - you don't get that many long sleeve ones. So - a lovely run spolit by a couple of things that can be put right. Date of review: December 2, 2005

In short: This could feasibly be renamed "The Silage Shuffle" In full: Two weeks on and my trail shoes are banished to the garage their pong is so bad as a result of this chilly canter! The course is a very generous 8.5 miles mostly through cowpats which were uncannily viscous. The combination of several cold dunkings and one lengthy wait in freezing water followed by an icy blast of hosepipe meant that despite running over what felt like sticky toffee pudding all morning my legs were not sore at all - Either that means I didn't try hard enough or it could mean the organisers really DID think of everything - obviously I'm with the organisers on this one! The t-shirt was lovely and very welcome to keep the chill out whilst I gobbled my KitKat - I'm sure they never used to taste that good. Back for more next year but please, please sort out the whole ditch situation so some of us don't stand freezing for ten minutes whilst others blatantly cheat along the bank - thanks. In short: Fan-Flippin'-Tastic! In full: This year was the second year I've run the race and I've got to say, the mud, the streams, the hills and the bum sliding gave me a good couple of hours of amusement. I've never smiled so much when out running as I did during this race. If you haven't done it, do it... But wear decent shoes and pray for rain!
Can't wait until next year now. Date of review: November 17, 2005

In short: Mud glorious mud! In full: Well I did the Salamon Hell Raiser a few weeks back and I didnt think this could be as muddier or as hard.. how wrong was I.. It was even harder work, with more mud, extra cow patts, bogs and hills to contend with. Overall though an excellent way to spend a sunday. Even the wait at the ditch was a welcome breather! I cant wait untill next year!! Date of review: November 17, 2005
