In short: Bristol...the best city in the world! In full: The split, wave type starts was a good idea and definately improved matters at the start line, but what was that skip about? Goody bag, better than in previous years. Date of review: January 20, 2009

In short: PB! In full: Excellent race! Fortunately I was in the first wave start and, although I set off a little too fast, was able to keep going at around eight-minute miles. Finished in 1 hour 42 minutes. Delighted! Date of review: November 22, 2008

In short: Great race, frrustrating after finish line In full: Did Bristol in 2006 - say no more re the start - 2008 - great rolling start, tough few miles at end - picking your way round queens square took out any momentum I'd managed to take into the city centre, and could I get back to college green after the race ???? was there a sign at the end of the funnel saying 'turn right' ? Ended up walking back down the course and crossing it between people coming in looking worse for wear and getting cold in the process, some people just want to get back to their bag (and phone!) and then go to meet their loved ones. In short: My first ever half marathon. In full: A great first half marathon for myself. The atmosphere around the course from spectators was great, the course was challenging enough with some hard inclines near the end. I thought the start and finish were well organised and I cant wait to return hoping to beat this years time of 1hr 41 mins 47 secs Date of review: September 26, 2008

In short: My third Bristol Half in a row and definitely the best In full: 2006 was a fiasco and lots of improvements were made in 2007 which made the course faster and less bunched up. This year the organisers almost nearly got it perfect. Really liked the staggered start and much improved goody bag. Only real bugbear was the near impossible walk/obstacle course back to the baggage store. Support in the centre was excellent - and I really needed it to get me round the last 3 miles! In short: Bristol Half Obstacle Race In full: This was my third outing for my hometown half. Wasn't sure beforehand about the two wave start but seemed to work OK, but ends up feeling like two races, rather than one. Goody bag better than last year - well, anything's better than just a tin of soup! So some improvement there but what on earth are they thinking about still sending ten thousand-ish runners down a small alley with a sharp 90 degree left turn - this year straight into the path of a slumbering skip?! This is meant to be a city half marathon - not some backstreet 'It's a Knockout'! Even so, was on taregt for my first sub-two hour Bristol half until mile ten (BTW what happend to mile eleven?), when the circuitous city centre streets and cobbles took their toll - missing out by 51 seconds. Therefore, whatever other obstacles they though at us, I'm guaranteed to return again until the magic two is busted. Oh, one other thing, are the organisers/local council 'bigging' this half up too much? Website and local media headlines would have us believe there were in excess of 15,000 runners but the same sources only listed a little over 9,500 results. Where are the missing 5,500? Still in the skip, perhaps?!!! Date of review: September 22, 2008
