In short: Loved it ! In full: I really enjoyed the gut buster 10 miler, it had a lovely warm friendly atmosphere and was very well run.
The chip timing company were great, instant times and they even uploaded a finish line video with your times, which was a bit embarrassing but a nice touch and the photographers uploaded their photos FOC result !
The 10miler was 60% trail and 40% road, so I opted to wear my hybrid shoes, which I think was sensible due to the amount of road covered, but not so great in the very deep mud of the cabbage fields ! It was really good fun though and I enjoyed running round the Roman walls.
Arrive early if you have been assigned parking at the farm, as I noticed a fair few people parking there that should have actually been at the park and ride.
The other really nice bit was that you could change your mind and opt for the 10k if you wanted (as long as you let them know when you finished) so you could make up your mind when you reached the break off point for the 10k and 10miler.
Water was in cups or in the forge you could run through !
No negative comments, just a couple of constructive things; I felt the man talking at the start could have done with a microphone I wish the ribbons that were attached to the medals, said if it was a 10mile or 10k race that you completed, but the free engraving of time was great and arrived promptly. That racing dogs should be on lead. Date of review: January 9, 2016
In short: Loved it! In full: Second year running this event and after last years cold, this year we had warm and wet, with mud and more mud replacing the ice. A great end to the year with a great atmosphere, lovely medal and mince pies / mulled wine. Also, the park and ride option worked beautifully. Well done to all at My Sporting Times. In short: Great In full: Great course with something for everyone, well placed between Xmas and new year to give you something to get out of the house for. Well run, great marshals, Excellent parking (Off site with free bus). Defiantly one for the list for next year. Date of review: December 29, 2015
In short: cabbage field = one of my 5 a day?! In full: A super run perfectly sandwiched between Christmas and the new year! There were lots of ppl out, esp round Silchester, and it was wonderful having support from spectators who weren't connected with the race. Great support from the marshals and the drinks station were manned, or should I say 'kidded' with really friendly folk! Smooth and slick at registration (loved the disposable timing tag) and humourous (but of course informative) race briefing. As promised, it was a wet and muddy ten mile course. The mulled wine and mince pies were a nice festive touch and what a novel medal with bottle opener- genius! A smashing race which took you over fields, round Roman walls and past alpacas with the finale being through a cabbage field. Date of review: December 29, 2015
In short: A must do event In full: For the first time in a couple of years we haven't had freezing conditions for the run and I was worried that the course would be harder than even (muddier!), but actually it wasn't too bad.
A really brilliant course, cleverly giving 10k and 10 Mile options without simply adding laps, and a perfect mix of trails, road and of course a last 400m across a cabbage patch field to the finish line! What a finish!
Again I entered late (mid November) and car parked off site. This year, due to a late change, we used a park & ride just near the motorway junction (perfect for me as I come from that direction anyway) and it's barely 10 mins on a free bus. What's not to like? Although I can only see this filling up earlier & earlier each year, so I don't think I'll chance missing out next time.
A brilliant event. Great course, lovely people, superb medal that doubles as a bottle opener, mince pies, mulled wine. Awesome. Date of review: December 29, 2015
In short: Brilliant In full: I enjoyed my first 10miler it lived up to its name it was muddy and very muddy I'm still finding it now after I have washed everything and my trainers are still drying 24 hrs after the race. But it was fantastic organised and brilliant atmosphere and would defiantly no it next year see you New Years eve Date of review: December 29, 2015
In short: What happened? In full: This is a tough course with something for everyone: ice; hills; mud; streams; a ford; Roman remains; electricity pylons; railway lines bridges; turnip fields... you name it!
The atmosphere is great, with a lovely bunch of fellow-nutters and the dual route for the 10k and 10 mile races (at some points) makes for a friendly course.
Well done chaps: another good un! Date of review: December 29, 2014
In short: Excellent, tough cross country race with mulled wine and mince pies at the finish In full: Good mix of country lanes, bridleways and fields, both the 10k and 10m option started together and Chip timing meant there was no jostling at the start and instant results were available at the end. The organisation was fabulous, very friendly, the mulled wine and mince pies (as well as water) was a nice treat. Lovely, quality medal too. Date of review: December 29, 2014
