In short: What happened? In full: This is a tough course with something for everyone: ice; hills; mud; streams; a ford; Roman remains; electricity pylons; railway lines bridges; turnip fields... you name it!
The atmosphere is great, with a lovely bunch of fellow-nutters and the dual route for the 10k and 10 mile races (at some points) makes for a friendly course.
Well done chaps: another good un! Date of review: December 29, 2014
In short: Excellent, tough cross country race with mulled wine and mince pies at the finish In full: Good mix of country lanes, bridleways and fields, both the 10k and 10m option started together and Chip timing meant there was no jostling at the start and instant results were available at the end. The organisation was fabulous, very friendly, the mulled wine and mince pies (as well as water) was a nice treat. Lovely, quality medal too. Date of review: December 29, 2014
In short: Wonderful post-Christmas jaunt through the ice and mud In full: I run in the region of 20 organised races each year and this has become a fixture on my race calendar, and is one of my favourites. The organisation is excellent and the route is lovely; muddy, icy, and with a few slippery little hills chucked in, plus you get to run through one of Britain's premier Roman sites! The organiser is infectiously jolly and his pre-race briefings always raise a smile. Great medal, instant results, and mulled wine and mince pies make for a nice friendly, seamless experience. I have done quite a few My Sporting Times runs and they are never less than excellent (and, no, I have no vested interest in MST!!!). See you in 2015! Date of review: December 28, 2014
In short: Challenging, slippy and muddy In full: The event was organised very well, considering the increase in numbers over recent years. This year the day was very cold and icy underfoot, which made some road sections uncomfortable underfoot. The course goes through some lovely country and was a great run apart from the wrong footwear making the trail runs too slippy for a decent time. Date of review: December 28, 2014
In short: Well Done In full: Nice medal and mulled wine and mince pies at the finish. Friendly marshals. Plenty of mud :-) Would have been great if the 10mile runners could have parked at the farm as got cold quickly waiting for bus to take us to the other car park at the hotel. In short: A great way to end the year In full: One of the friendliest events you'll find anywhere, and it's the attention to detail that makes it. Super slick organisation, from pre event comms, to the free shuttle for those parking at Wokefield Park, and the cheery marshals. Best of all for me is the wonderful course; a perfect mix of trails, paths and road through some lovely countryside. I'll be signing up for 2015 right now!! Date of review: December 28, 2014
In short: Frozen, hilly, challenging running fun!!! In full: My fiancé and I signed up to the 10k to prevent us from too much Christmas boozing and eating! I have done a few trail runs and road races before but this was his first. The course was challenging with some tough hills, the biggest issue was the ice which made some of the downhill parts fairly scary. I opted not to run through the ford but plenty of crazy people charged straight through. Great atmosphere, marshals were really encouraging and it was well organised. The event was full and so we had to park at the hotel down the road, the organisers had put on bus transport which was easy to find and ran at good times. The medals were cool too. Would definitely do it again although might review my choice of footwear. Date of review: January 3, 2014
In short: Does what it says on the tin. Great fun In full: Well organised event based on a farm. Parked just fine. Decent race HQ and registration. Briefing excellent. The course is a mix of country road and trails. The first couple of miles on the road were treacherous in places due to the frost leaving us skating at times. It was a pleasure to hit the mud by the Roman ruins. It was quite heaving going in places with a few hills to test muscles but nothing too tough. Friendly atmosphere. Perfect way to shake off some of the Xmas excess. Mince pies and mulled wine at end nice touch. Decent medal with personal race time plate being posted afterwards is good too.
