In short: Another great Watlington 10km In full: The Watlington 10km races are simply must do races if you live in the area and like challenging runs. This year there was what seemed to be a record field, which is great news. There was a hold-up at the start, which was unfortunate. Bargain entry fee of £5 and includes bottle of water and a pint at the end. Good pint in the pub as well. Tough hills, and sometimes muddy and stumpy underfoot. Great race. I'll be back everytime. In short: Friendly XC 10k in glorious autumnal woods and trails In full: This is a fabulous race. About 120 runners so small and perfectly formed. An interesting course - a gradual and then pretty steep incline at 2-3k is followed by a downhill and long flattish section winding round woods and another steep ascent around 8k, followed by a glorious descent through fallen leaves. A perfect XC 10k and great if you're training for coastal path runs or other undulating longer races. Date of review: December 1, 2013
In short: Great local race with tough terrain and stunning views. In full: Two long steep hills made for an excellent challenge. Fabulous views on a sunny December morning. Very friendly atmosphere. Amazing value entry fee. Will try to come back for the summer edition. Date of review: December 1, 2013
In short: Lovely morning run In full: Scenery and variety of terrain was brilliant. Loved the no frills approach and marshals were very friendly. However a bit miffed to do an extra quarter mile when there was no direction at the first "peak". OK I know I'm slow but I wasn't last and I was just getting ready for my downhill spurt! A great run nevertheless Date of review: July 1, 2013
In short: A low key race for a fiver with some stunning scenery with some tough hills. In full: Liked the course so much I ran it twice. Loved the fact that this was a no nonsense, low key event for such a bargain. No messing around, just off you go and run in the awesome country. Some tough hills up and down but a great course. Be back next time! Date of review: July 1, 2013
In short: Friendly, cheerful, scenic and challenging - a lovely all round package In full: This was my first cross country run over this distance since school so I felt a bit daunted but was encouraged by my cousin to take part.
It felt very relaxed from the start, with friendly volunteers and enthusiastic participants.
We were lucky to have beautiful weather which ensured that the course remained dry and provided a beautiful backdrop.
Taking in shaded and wooded tracks, a couple of really challenging climbs and a second descent through a wooded path wide enough for only one person to fit through, it was nevertheless a real pleasure to tackle.
Pretty much the entirety of my running has been done on solid ground and on the flat so this was a real eye opener for me, an opportunity to challenge myself over a familiar distance but a completely unfamiliar terrain - so take my review with a pinch of salt if you're an experienced trail runner. That said, everyone was very friendly and encouraging, the course was well signposted and the environs were really stunning. Definitely recommended. Date of review: July 1, 2013
In full: Was my first time doing this race and really enjoyed it. Really low key and beautiful scenery in the glorious Chiltern countryside. Only downside was two gigantic hills (probably about 0.8 miles long each). Painful! Also, it would be good if the organisers could get the results sorted quicker. Only a small entry so it's a bit poor having to wait more than24 hours. Date of review: July 1, 2013
