In short: Well organised, competitive and beautiful In full: I love this run. I have special memeories of the area - which is beautiful and the organsation of this great race is spot on. No fuss, just straight forward and smooth. Unlike the Nike 'Human Race' I have just finished this run is clearly organised by people who understand runners. Thanks to all involved. In short: Friendly, varied and cold. Great run In full: Undulating in the true sense, no big hills, but no huge expanses of road which make you realise how far you've got to run. Minimum of fuss, nice medal, reasonable beer after. Job's a good 'un. Date of review: November 2, 2007

In short: Amazing that a small village can organise a race to rival big city halfs In full: My first time at Barns Green. Others have written about how well organised this is (car parking, enough toilets, simple kit bag storage, roads closed etc.) and I completely agree. Course is more hilly than I'd been led to believe so unlike others below I didn't get a PB (a minute off that pace) but I did enjoy the scenery and the run through Christs Hospital (school) was wonderful. In short: Pretty but challenging - shame about the rain! In full: My first ever half marathon, and quite a challenge it was too! Although logically I know that you must have an equal amount of donhill as there is up, it felt like it was all uphill, especially at the end!
Still, it was a beautiful course, and the amount of support from places you passed was incredible, especially considering the rain and how far back I was! Having my name called out by the man-with-a-megaphone as I crossed the finish line was fun too :) Date of review: October 30, 2007

In short: Excellent organisation but needs chip to chip timing In full: This race was very well organised from approaching the village by car then parking, bag storage, PA announcements, mile markers, etc, too many good things to list them all. A mention must be made that there were no queues for loos, ladies and gents - excellent.
The course was car free so totaly safe and there were loads of marshals who all knew what they were doing, although they were a bit quiet but who wouldn't be standing in the cold rain for hours. Full marks to them for a fantastic job. I thought it was good as well to see the locals out giving support. This always gives a boost.
The course was quite scenic and in my opinion the hills were just right, you need some to make it interesting and vary the pace a bit, or a lot!
An all round excellent race and with cakes at the end, perfect. Date of review: October 30, 2007

In short: Not for the faint hearted In full: A very competitive and suprisingly hilly half marathon. I didnt expect so many hills but was glad of the hill respite for the last mile or so. Very well orgniased, all credit to the organisers as reminded me of a mini london marathon with kit bags and all. Really enjoyed the race, couple of gripes: Huge queue for the food and drinks afterwards, didnt hang around to see if it wasnt enough people serving. Not enough shelter (would matter if it hadnt been raining I guess), another marquee wouldnt have gone amiss, and can you please give marshalls rubbish bags. Couldnt bare to throw empty gels into the lovely landscape so clung onto them until water stops but would be even better if their were bins where the marshalls were stationed. Thanks for a great event!! Date of review: October 29, 2007

In short: Excellent as always In full: The fourth time I have run at this event, and I enjoyed it hugely. It is an excellent course, with fantastic scenary, and is very well organised and marshalled. On a very wet day it was really encouraging that so many people turned out to support. The organisers have not simply reproduces the same formula year after year, but continue to improve the event (eg improved medals, water station locations, chip timing). If chip-to-chip timing could be introduced that would be the icing on the cake. From a personal point of view I ran 14.5 minutes quicker than last year, so was very satisfied. In short: A refreshing challenge In full: Really good atmosphere with villagers turning out despite the rain to cheer everyone on. The water stations were well spaced and the scenery was lovely - especially at this time of year. I managed to get a PB - I'd definitely do this one again! Date of review: October 29, 2007
