In short: Excellent First 1/2 marathon In full: Nervous at the start as this was my first 1/2M but lots of other first-timers around. I'd heard there were two nasty hills but to be honest the first was a piece of cake and I only struggled on the second because of an old injury. Not as tough as I was expecting. Fantastic scenery, excellent local support, good organisation, lots of toilets so no real queues, great water station cheering and all along the route. Want to do it again next year (injury free) to get a better time. Only problem was parking - we were directed to the caravan site car park but this was hideously tight, lacking in space etc but perhaps this was because the fields where cars would normally park were knee deep in water from the previous days rain! Otherwise very well organised. Date of review: November 6, 2008
In short: Great, specially with good weather In full: Wonderful first half marathon in over two years. Hills not as bad as had been expecting. Friendly supporters spread throughout the route was great, as was running on car-free roads. Will definitely come again. Many thanks to organisers. Would appreciate more clarity about road closures before the race for supporters who might want to come and go.
In short: Beautiful run, well organised In full: I had a pretty poor run this year but still enjoyed the organisation itself and thw atmosphere - positive but also competitive. Lovely route, couple of mildly challenging hills but very scenic. Not keen on the mulching/grassy section but that cannot be helped. Overall Great! Date of review: November 3, 2008
In short: Big round of aplause for the Organisers In full: Superb organisation from start to finish. It was so nice to see encouraging spectators all round the course. Makes you realise that there are tolerant people in the country. A far cry from the abuse I am used to from drivers while training. Can't thank everyone enough for such a smooth event. A definite one for next years calendar. Date of review: November 3, 2008
In short: Fantastic organisation - great scenery - In full: Like others have said... Minimum Fuss and excellent execution. You don't have to be a big branded 12,000 participant event to have a great race!
Short toilet queues, no delays in getting my car out of the field afterwards (something I was very worried about given the soft ground), great sports massage afterwards, lots of enthusiastic support.
It is a real credit to the people of the area that they can put on such a great race. And put up with the inconvenience of closed roads - Thank you to everyone.
The course is a great mix of roads, hills, impressive school grounds and off road track. The closed roads are great too - never felt too crowded.
Fantastic stuff. My first BG half, but not my last! Date of review: November 3, 2008
In short: Thoroughly enjoyable, will be back next year In full: This was my first half marathon and thoroughly enjoyed it! The hills weren't nearly as tough as I had expected. The scenery was beautiful and the supporters really added to the lovely atmosphere of the race. Date of review: November 3, 2008
