In short: Well organised and very friendly In full: As above, very well organised and very friendly people, both runners and marshalls. Lots of water stations as well which were needed!
Only did the half and it was pretty tough due to the heat. Scenic off road course with a few hills but only a couple of miles of woodland shade on each lap with the rest out in full sun and very exposed.
Personally, given the time of year and course, would prefer to see it start at 9.00 rather than 10.30 - running through the midday sun was hard and don't think I was alone in that looking at some of the other people on the way round!
In short: Great challenging half marathon, great location In full: Only entered the half marathon and WHOA the heat! and add to that not much shade (except for the shaded bit at the end of each lap), tractor tracks, stones, hills and off road tracks made it a great race. Thanks to the other runners for the atmosphere and the excellent marshals - thanks for all the encouragement (I really needed it in the heat). Hopefully will do the full weekend next year and will bring the kids. Date of review: June 30, 2011
In short: Great as always In full: Perfect event - really liked this year's mementoes too (tech T is great!). Don't know how the organisers manage to provide so much for so little (race is incredibly good value). Had stinkers of runs in the 8.1 and the broiling half mara, but managed a PB at the Colworth 5 this year :-) see you next year! Date of review: June 29, 2011
In short: A Quality Event, Everyone Must Try This In full: The Colworth Challenge always seems to fall on a weekend when I'm away but everyone at my club, Northampton Road Runners, raves about it. This year I thought I better go and see what all the fuss is about.
Friday's 5 miler was a single lap route which went through some beautiful woodland trails and ended with a mainly downhill stretch, even the rain couldn't dampen anyone's spirits.
Saturday 8.1 distance was much tougher, this was a real challenge with miles of tractor grooves to dodge but the sense of achievement at the end was excellent.
Sunday's Half was made all the more challenging by temperature rising to 28 degree. The route is two lap extended route of the 5 mile race and we were all very thankful of the shaded woodland for a couple of miles at the end of each lap.
The extras that make this challenge so wonderful are the great marshals and volunteers that are really enthusiastic for the whole weekend.
The mementos are great too, Friday is a medal, Saturday was a snood and Sunday a t shirt but you also get a trophy for completing the whole challenge.
Personally I didn't camp but our contingent that did swear by it and they will all be back next year.
Thanks very much to Colworth Striders for a great event. Date of review: June 27, 2011
In short: Challenging 3 days but glad I did it In full: It's the first time I've done the Marathon Challenge, and it's a tough 3 days due mainly to lack of recovery time, and the conditions on the half marathon (hottest day of the year - 28 degrees) made it really hard work. I finished 22 minutes slower than my previous half marathon! Basically, it was a case of 5 miles on Friday which seemed reasonably quick, a tough 8.1 trail run on Saturday and then a countryside half marathon in the heat. I have unfinished business with this!
