In short: Smashed PB but even allowing for my bias it's a good one In full: If you can kick hard off hills and don't mind going up the odd one, definite PB potential. decent enought scenery. Encouraging/vocal marshals which was a great help goven teh foul weather to which they too were being subjected! Date of review: December 21, 2008
In short: Wet Wet Wet. Despite that good PB potential oon slightly troublsaome hill at 11 miles other wise nothing too scary. Race finish could have been re-thought out due to the weather Date of review: October 20, 2008
In short: Despite lousy weather I took 7 mins of my PB! In full: As said in many of the reviews the Marshalls and children at the water stations were superb - even to be out in what was an awful morning weather wise. Course was challenging without being too tough just wish it had been a bit brighter! Will definately do the course again. Date of review: October 15, 2008
In short: Undulating but no hills that scary! In full: I enjoyed the challenge which I felt was a fast course even allowing for the atrocious weather. Would like to return hopefully with better weather next time Date of review: October 11, 2008
In short: Despite the miserable weather, I really enjoyed this and got my first sub 2 hour time In full: A combination of rather too much red wine the night before and waking up to the miserable weather nearly made me wimp out of this race. But I'm really glad I didn't. The course was lovely, the marshalls superb and what a bonus having the hall to shelter in at the beginning and end. Lovely cake too! Date of review: October 8, 2008
In short: Well organised, challenging course, great event In full: Dismal day for it, for good fun and at least it wasn't too cold or windy. Several fords (or floods) to contend with and so sodden I finished much heavier than I started.
A good pb though in spite of all so I'm happy.
The mistake at the start is one to put down to experience and one everyone who organises races can learn from. I'm sure the weather played its part in that as well. Best we all forgive and forget I think. Date of review: October 7, 2008
In short: Great course, well organised, friendly atmosphere In full: Second year doing this and because of the bad weather went by myself from Leicestershire without my wife for support. A number of other runners went out of their way to chat with me at the beginning and during the race - I must have looked lonely, but this sums up how friendly the event is and thanks to them.
The Marshalls and the young girls at the water stations screaming encouragement were great - must have been more miserable marshalling than running in what was horrendous weather. Also great that the marshall at the beginning gave us slower runners a bit of an edge by sending the leaders the wrong way, not sure how that happened but better to happen at the start than close to the finish I guess.
I will ceratinly be encouraging a few people to make the journey over from Leicestershire for the race next year. Date of review: October 6, 2008
