In short: great uplifting scenery, fantastic, killing hills, but not enough water on the route In full: It was an unseasonally hot day, and running up through the low-lying mist was glorious. The hills were as dastardly as advertised, but i felt that four water stations on a 20-mile route were not really enough and there was one 6-mile stretch between stations which is too long with all those hills. Marshalls were great, as always, but could have done with someone at the top of the final zig-zag down to the finish as when you're that tired, you can't remember where you came up! In short: Scenic, hilly and welcoming. A fun course up and around the South Downs. In full: While I was using the JSJ20 as preparation for the Beachy Head marathon I was hoping for a fine day out and wasn't disappointed. The course was beautiful in the sun and mist and quite challenging (though not as tough as expected). Mostly off-road although the long descent on the road towards the end was very painful. Worth a detour! Date of review: October 14, 2008

In short: A great, testing, long run. In full: This run will test you in new ways - it has hill hazards, off road hazards, horse hazards, cow hazards and scenery so beautiful and distracting it is a hazard!
The unusual distance of 20 miles means that this very tough and hilly run will leave you with the same satisfyingly knackered feeling of having run a marathon.
The run is well marshalled by enthusiastic and smiley people, some of which have hidden treasures like mars bars. There are plenty of drink stations along the route - unusual from other small off-road runs in the area but very much appreciated for it.
The run is excellent value and I'd recommend it to anyone. A lovely way to see the downs and get leg ache the next day! Date of review: October 13, 2008

In short: Very tough but great fun... In full: ...well if thats possible! This race isn't to be taken lightly. Tough hills and the long run into the finish make it physically and mentally testing. Was running this with a friend this year who was just aiming to finish - big big thanks to the marshalls who stayed out there despite our slow progress it really was uplifting!

In short: I keep coming back! In full: This was my 4th Jog Shop 20 in succession. Some races are content to be small in mumber, others aspire to have a larger field. I cannot help to think that this event deserves a bigger field than the 150-200 runners that turn up each year. If the organisers aspire to a bigger event then improvements are needed. The continuous problem of the 4th water station was worse than ever. The gap between the 3rd & 4th water station was further distance than in the previous years. Also when I got there, they had run out of water!! More marshalls, better signage, alternative smaller distance race, better marketing, signs depicting the 'north face', 'yellow brick road', big w etc will also create more of an atmosphere. On the other hand if the organisers wish to keep the event small - then don't make any changes - other than that Water sation at Rottingdean Date of review: October 13, 2008

In short: Tough course, good climbs and lovely atmosphere. In full: Third time for me and it doesn't get any easier. A very friendly event in terms of marshalls, organisers and other competitors; not o friendly in terms of the course itself plenty of stiff climbs and fast descents mixed in with good sections of very runable downland tracks. Thanks to all involved for another great morning out over the glorious South Downs. Date of review: October 12, 2008

In short: Tough and hilly but well worth the effort for the great scenery In full: For me the steep hills were not runnable but there were others walking too and it was very friendly. Thank you to all the marshalls and those who gave up their time and were so supportive. My only minor criticism was we could have done with a few more arrows - one on the slope down to the finish would have been good, when there wsn't one I wondered whether we had to go down a different way. Overall great preparation for Beachy. Date of review: October 12, 2008

In short: Very tough but great fun In full: Another wonderful late october day to run through some of the most beautiful scenery the South Downs near Brighton have to offer. Actually a bit too hot for comfort for the last few miles... The marshalling was excellent, the route is tough, but the atmosphere was wonderful. Definitely one to do.
