In short: A fantastic start to the Bank Holiday Weekend. A future must-do event. In full: A fantastic race, very well organised - pre- to post race), excellent base facilities (never seen so many ladies' toilets!), stunning scenery. The mud made it even more special. Thanks Dave and Mel. Date of review: May 12, 2012
In short: Weather made the going tough in places (many places!), well organised, check points with great supplements/drinks and support, Look forward to sunny conditions next year. Thanks Dave and Mel and all suport crew. Date of review: May 11, 2012
In short: Good race, shame about conditions In full: Great venue, very nice t-shirt and medal. Course was largely off road with a couple of hills, just sadly so muddy after the month of rain that spent the run looking at my feet trying to stay upright rather than enjoying the views and location. In short: Undulating, scenic two laps round Bewl Water reservoir In full: Weather turned this into a bit of a mudbath and having to keep your eyes on your feet meant you tended to miss the rather lovely scenery (bluebells and swallows). Less flat and therefore more interesting than you might imagine.Nice tech shirt for finishers. Date of review: May 7, 2012
In short: mud, sweat and cheers In full: The only mistake the great people at Hermes running made was to state in their entry form, trail shoes not needed! The rest of the race was fab. So much mud, much hillier than expected, wet, windy and just perfect for an XC marathon!!! Loved it!!!
The fact that it was 2 laps melted away with the beautiful scenery and tranquil location. Flooding had rendered most paths accessible with a pair of skis so the downhills were especially fun, with most runners caked in mud. Exceptionally well stocked checkpoints and easy parking and a bar at the finish meant this is a must for regular marathoners, but also a great starting point for first timers. In short: Good course. Pleasant setting. Challenging conditions. In full: My first organised marathon so very pleased to have completed and in an ok time. The mud was challenging at times, requiring a mix of running and ice skating skills. Organisers enthusiastic and provided just the right number of stops. Would run again but hopefully not under the same conditions. Date of review: May 6, 2012
In short: Great race that was definately a challange running through the clay and mud, but excellent organisation by Dave and Mel Ross, highly recommend to anybody that like off road running Date of review: May 5, 2012
In short: Wonderful course, well organised and challenging In full: This was a really enjoyable (though hard) event. I suspect that had the weather been less wet over the last couple of weeks, it would have been less challenging, but there was a lot of sticky mud, slippery mud, deep mud and puddles. My legs feel very tired after this! Thank goodness for trail shoes.
The race HQ was great, lots of toilets, good catering facilities, lovely staff. Wish more races started from places like this.
Particularly enjoyable to see dogs allowed to run. I wish I had one!
This race converted a non-trail runner, i.e. my husband, who is now keen to look for another trail race to do. Date of review: May 5, 2012
