In short: So long......... but great supportive marshalls In full: Of the 3 half marathons that I have done this year, ironically I found this the hardest - even though it is the most flat of the 3 - probably because of the heat - and my lack of ability to run and drink water at the same time - so resulting in me having to walk in order to drink and then finding it *so* difficult to start running again.
The marshalls though were great - and as I was towards the back, there were loads of other people walking so didn't feel so bad. Still managed to run the first 6 miles so was pleased about that - and I still finished in a fairly respectable time (for me).
Special thanks goes to the old gent that finished one position above me who was very encouraging and came over at the end to say well done - and to my husband who again was in his supportive role - and ran along beside me for the last mile where I so wanted to walk again - but he wouldn't let me.
That last stretch to the finishing line felt like it was never ending and it was such a relief to pass the finishing line.
The race was superbly organised and the marshalls very supportive and caring making sure that we were all ok especially when they saw how much we were suffering in that humidity.
Hopefully be back again! Date of review: June 7, 2010
In short: well organised race In full: Re comments about the late start
The reason for the short delay was that there was a little concern about not having an adequate police presence at the first main road junction in order to close the road and ensure the safety of competitors.
I think that whilst this could have been relayed to the runners the organisors were justified in waiting for the road to be closed before starting Date of review: June 7, 2010
In short: Fine, apart from the water stops In full: The race started five minutes late, which was somewhat unnecessary, as the announcer clearly liked the sound of his own voice rather than having anything of any great import to say. The race was well signposted and marshalled, but the water stops were terrible. Not enough people - I missed water at two, at one the cup was almost empty, and at the last one the woman failed to let go of the cup. As I was closer to the sharp end than the back I can only assume that they got their act together a bit better by the time the later runners came through. I know this might seem like cavilling, but even though I was well hydrated the fact that I only actually managed to get hold of water at one of the four stops was a bit poor. In short: Always one to look forward to - even in the heat In full: Thankyou Malvern and Worcester AC for organising and staging another great triple run. Much warmer this year than last (the humidity was pretty bad - several people felt they weren't firing on all cylinders due to the oppressive heat)), but otherwise, a perfect day - great support, good water stops and seemless organisation from start to finish. I'm already looking forward to 2011! Date of review: June 7, 2010
In short: Another excellent run of the Acorns Malvern 1/2 In full: Was a tad humid, but with 4 water stations enroute, all seemed to go ok. Did see one person collapse at the end however. Event was brilliantly organised as usual, with some good support and friendly marshalls along the way. Will be back next year again. Date of review: June 7, 2010
