In short: Hills, Hills and more bloody hills ....... GREAT ! Fantastic race with a personal touch In full: Love this race, came into it this year (2nd attempt) again 3 weeks after London, my time at Brathay was better than my time at London. The car park was a lot better this year. This is a nice race organised by nice people. ......OMG I am actually considering the 10 in 10 next year, get the gun and shoot me quick (LOL) Date of review: June 6, 2010
In short: Running this marathon once is an achievement. To run it ten times in ten days deserves the highest level of respect! In full: I merely ran the marathon once and I was a wreck at the end. A number of tough hills but the one at 7 miles was a monster! Before I rate this event, I must mention those hardy individuals that completed this marathon 10 times in 10 consecutive days concluding on the main mass-participant event. The organisers made sure that us mere mortals could cheer the 10 in 10s off as they started off an hour before the mass start - if witnessing sure a scene doesn't fire you up then nothing will. Anyway, I will never run the 10 in 10 and if I ever get talked into it then shoot me!
Windermere is an area of outstanding beauty, and the marathon is a good way to experience the scenery if you don't mind hills and the challenge of running 26.2 miles. I seem to always suffer on this course, and the conclusion that I've come up with is that the profile is constantly undulating, and it will give your legs a thorough workout. You will suffer if your training hasn't included sufficient hillwork.
Despite the remote location, the event has a big feel with a good-sized field. Event location had good facilties, plenty of marshals and sufficent drinks stations - I never noticed the Kendal cake at the drinks stations but was was pretty shattered! Parking was well marshaled which was necessary as most participants had to drive due to the remote location.
Great day, Well Done to the 10 in 10s, and thanks to the organisers Date of review: May 23, 2010
In short: Lovely day In full: My first ever marathon and I'll definitely be back. Superbly organised, beautiful course, wonderful support from the marshalls and a very friendly group to run with. My only gripe was that I would love to see i-pods banned at this race - having watched more than one oblivious runner drift out in front of cars, it is a dangerous way to run and very anti-social. In short: A great event - highly recommended! In full: Second attempt and beat last years time by 17 seconds! Had hoped to do a bit better this year due to knowing the course. I intended to keep a steady pace all the way round - felt really good up to 17/18 miles and thought I had cracked it and then found the last 7 or 8 miles a real struggle (as I did last year!). Despite this I really enjoyed the event and thought the organisation was superb. Date of review: May 22, 2010
In short: I love this race. It's tough and hilly, but all th ebetter for it. It is nice not the have to worry about chasing a PB and just enjoying the beautiful countryside instead!! Date of review: May 21, 2010
