In short: Tough climbs in the woods but a good feeling ticking off the laps In full: I wasn't expecting this to be as tough as it was and I think I could say the same for the majority of people I spoke to on the way round. It was my first off road race but definitely not my last. Well organised, and I was surprised by the fairly small field. The marshalling was first class and the fruit cake and jelly babies were a god send. Date of review: July 8, 2009
In short: Very enjoyable without any pressure. Friendly. In full: It's hard to find 20 milers anytime between now and September unless you go very far oop North. So this was meant to be a gauge to see how training was going for a Marathon in early October. Should have investigated further really. Off-road? Great - no worries about knee-pounding. Wrong! Those steep descents followed immediately by steep ascents took their toll after a while. Could be a bit hilly I thought. No long climbs but everything was so steep (up or down). I was restricted to a walk on the second of the ascents on every lap. I do enjoy laps though - the support and encouragement is well-appreciated - not to mention jelly babies. It was amazing fun, but I think you have to be a bit of a nutcase to get the most out of out. There was a young couple out there struggling with the 20km - they were very brave and I was pleased to see that they finished. Well done to them and all the others for coming through. Good race for discovering your form? Probably not, but I got round (which at 10km didn't seem that likely...). You should do this event. All of you. Date of review: June 30, 2009
In short: Ticks the difficult box In full: Didnt expect this, think I must have missed something out in the small print when I entered! Have done a 10K at Irchester Country Park before but sundays race didnt go anywhere near the same paths. The first time round nearly killed me having never done this sort of thing before, those inclines were cruel, however it then got better and I thoroughly enjoyed. It certainly was different and a Challenge and I would never have opted to do this had I known what was involved but now that I do, I hope to come back again for another go. Great Marshalls, thanks for keeping me going. I must have missed my T shirt though! Date of review: June 29, 2009
In short: Fantastic, tough event In full: Great event - I did the 10k and 5 laps was definately enough for me. Very tough course, but short laps made it more manageable. Monster hills and very challenging, but great fun. Nice T shirt (that actually fits!) and well organised. Will definately be back! Date of review: June 29, 2009
In short: Brilliant!! Great scenery, varied forest trail with some testing short uphills and moderately technical parts. Laps were great to learn the course and multi distances ideal for first time trail runners. Very well organised, highly recommende Date of review: June 29, 2009
In short: Tough race but very enjoyable, especially when you've finished! In full: A couple of killer near vertical hills in the first half of the circuit but easier after that. Definitely not for anyone hoping for a PB but a challenging and enjoyable race. Date of review: June 28, 2009
In short: Just Awesome In full: This was my first off road 10k so did not know what to expect. However, it was very challenging and makes road running feel easy. The organisation was very good, the course was amazing with hills you will never have considered running up before and cool trails through the country park, you will have to dodge the trees run through the mud it was ace.
I would defiantly recommend this race but it is not for the faint hearted and would be a very tough for a first timer. Hhowever, different and very good fun.
