In short: Tough course and the heat didn't help - could have done with more drink stations (especailly as the forecast had said it would be that hot a week in advance). Great atmosphere in Barton though, the last 2 miles back across the bridge with no water w In full: Very difficult time of day to run 13 miles - there was no shade to be found.
Great atmosphere in Barton , the last 3 miles back across the bridge with no water was a killer.
Great course though, well organised - would do it again and pray for a cloudy day (or more water stations)! Date of review: August 16, 2005
In short: Great race despite the heat! In full: Travelled from Cheltenham to do this race and glad I did! Running over bridge was brilliant. First time I've ever walked in a half - much too hot! Nice atmosphere, the hosepipe owners and kids with water pistols in Barton saved the day! Date of review: June 21, 2005
In short: so so hot! hillier than expected In full: really hard run in the heat made up for by the people of Barton- thanks for the hoses and water pistols and great atmosphere at the finish. felt sorry for those who collapsed- scary Date of review: June 20, 2005
In short: Glorious weather for a picnic, intolerably hot for a half marathon. With the heat they should have been handing out bottles of water to carry on with you rather than just cups of water. Spectacular scenery from the bridge. Date of review: June 20, 2005
In short: incredibly hot day In full: saw a guy being sick over the handrails of humber bridge at 3 miles and a lot of people giving up at 5-8 miles.Full marks to st johns ambulance who did a great job on the day.Definately needed more water stations but around Barton the people were brilliant with hosepipes and buckets of water with sponges and even kids with water pistols. In short: Hillier than you might think. Very, very hot. In full: A big thank you to all the residents with hosepipes and water pistols. Probably wouldn't have finished without them! Date of review: June 20, 2005
In short: good course, though should start 9.30 not 11.15 In full: Big round of applause for all the St. jones, ambulance teams and marshales because of the incredeable heat. We all felt for those who collapsed due to the heat. very well organised though should have started earlyer. Date of review: June 20, 2005
In short: enjoyable but very hot and some killer hills. race should start earlier. In full: very nice scenery especially going over the bridge. fair enough it was an unusually hot day but really a race in the middle of June shouldnt start at 11.15. it meant the hardest part of the course, a very long hill at 8 miles, being at about the hottest part of the day!. thanks to all the people in Barton for the hoses and sponges, maybe the organisers could have done the same! more water stations and please please please not plastic cups!!!!!
