In short: First tri but enjoyed it In full: My first triathlon and I enjoyed it. I will return next year, possibly for the longer distance, but two laps of the swim seems daunting already!
Swim seemed ok - some confusion over the course, but I guess most people just follow the person in front. Cycle was fine and well marshalled, though i'd agree the final section into the park could have done with a few more marshals. Run was both good with the seafront section, but that added extra obstacles with visitors and spectators straying on to the course. I thought the crossovers went ok, and didnt have any problems.
To be fair to the organisers this was only their second Maldon tri and they've recognised problems with the run and spectators. I didnt have any problems with transition, but may have been helped by a few around me not turning up and others not being aroud when I was passing through. Date of review: July 24, 2012

In short: Great intro to the world of tri In full: This was my first triathlon and local for me. The swim was horrible, but largely (I think) due to my lack of preparedness. The bike was lovely, good smooth roads, with gentle turns, and fun overtaking. The run was somewhat frustrating as it wasn't overly marshalled. Also in general, spectators were allowed in too many places... my bf even held me up talking to me between the swim and bike legs...! Definitely do it again next year though. In short: so-so swim, nice bike, good run, not sure if fast guys would appreciate transitions in the park. In full: As a backmarker, yes, last green hat out of the water, I enjoyed the rest of the Tri, didn't really like the muddy estuary, but cycle and run were good.
As I was'nt that fussed over times (you can't be with my swimming) crowded park and crossovers of bikes/runners, cars and pedestrians did'nt bother me, but I did wonder what the fast guys made of it all. Not sure if I'd have liked to run the park 4 times, twice was enough - the novelty had worn off by 2nd lap!
Overall a good Tri, and for myself as a runner who does the occasional tri, was fine. Date of review: July 16, 2012

In short: Hopeless organisation, had to wait for transistion setup to finish, swim distance cut short due to shipping lane, useless marshalls, shorter than advertise run and bad signage on the run meant many went wrong! In full: Nice swim albeit shorter than expected due to trawlers heading out from the harbour.
Transistion too small, racking cramped so no real space for kit (trainers etc) next to bike.
Bike route was simple out/back on fairly quiet roads, good signage compared to the run. End of route changed from the advertised one.
Running route signage very bad in at least 2 places on the run with no marshalls to point the way, causing people to guess the route and get lost (I only got lost once where the signage stopped and no marshall, others were complaining about other parts of the course). Was told the winner completed 3k run section in 70m30s, 10seconds outside track world record so suspect it was a little short.
Definintely one to avoid and will not do another "Dengie Events" event. Date of review: July 10, 2011
