In short: Pewsey Terminator In full: Fantastic views if you have time to look around. Definitely worth investing in decent shoes (mudclaw or similar) great marshalls. So much more interesting than a boring road race. Don't pay silly money for commercial company events ( tough muddier etc.) - thus is a real test at a great price. Date of review: July 25, 2014
In short: Great cross country run In full: Entered this race on the back of really enjoying the Pewsey Vale Terminator back in February.
I wasn't disappointed. It was a lovely route, despite the best efforts of the Forestry Commission making a mess of parts of Collingbourne Woods. Trails were good, some nice climbs and excellent directions provided by very supportive marshalls.
Well done PVRC, I hope to be back again next year! Date of review: April 7, 2014
In short: TOUGH BUT BRILLIANT In full: Fourth time round this one for me and the delights of Savernake forest don't fade. First sighting of bluebells though, they've sensibly stayed hidden from the tramply feet of runners in previous years! Gloriously muddy, so quite tough in parts. But that only adds to the fun. This was my daughter's first ever event and she managed fine, so treat yourself and give it a go next year. The marshals are great and very helpful (offered to look after my jacket till I got back!) and the organisation can't be faulted. I have two'must do' events of the year. This is one of them. ?? In short: Toughest course I've been on date but managed to get to the finish despite the mud! In full: Great scenery with a good few obstacles along the way...hills,mud,ruts, brambles and broken branches across the woodland trails! All well organised with a lovely cuppa and cake on offer at the end. I'll be back for more punishment next year. Date of review: April 6, 2014
In short: Now this is proper "Cross Country" In full: Cross country running at it's best. Once past the opening mile of road leading out of Pewsey it's into the fields for an undulating [and muddy] few miles to the Kennett & Avon Canal. A trot along the towpath [muddy] follows after which the route leads you through a picturesque village, along more [muddy] bridleways and some [very muddy] paths. There are a few [very] challenging hills and the dip in the river at the end did the trick in terms of refreshing the legs and washing some of the chalky mud off of the trainers. Got tagged by a few hawthorn bushes here and there [still have the scratches] but this was a brilliant run, definitely one to do again. Date of review: March 6, 2014
In short: A favourite of mine! In full: Very enjoyable trail run, fantastic scenery, great course and a good challenge. I will definitely run this one again next year. Many thanks to all the marshalls and organisers. Date of review: February 26, 2014
In short: Great cake!! In full: The course-excluding some of the 4 biggest hill I has seen recently was great to run but it seemed too much of the route was only possible to run in single file having said that though it was great fun!!...like most off roaders a good quick start is needed.Lovely countryside and a challenging course with a mix of road, open fields and a river to wade through. The route was well marked with plenty of marshals to support.Excellent changing facilities/toilets.Most important of all great homemade cakes...yummy Date of review: February 26, 2014
In short: Tough but glad to do it In full: I've never been up hills that steep, even in fell races. The wind took my breath away at one point, if we hadn't gone downhill then, I'm not sure I could have moved. Pretty tricky with all the mud but I managed to stay upright. The river crossing actually brought my legs back to life. Fantastic marshalls, out in that wind all day but still very encouraging. The cakes were great and it was good to have showers especially as I was lunching in the pub afterwards. An excellent event and my only reason for not doing it again is that there are so many other races I haven't done yet. Date of review: February 25, 2014
In short: My favourite race of all time In full: I love this race! It is tough but the scenery is fantastic (if you get a chance to look which is difficult as you really need to concentrate on where you are putting your feet!), the marshalls are great and the people running it are friendly and encouraging. I had some lovely chats along the way with some lovely people. Don't chase a PB on this race - just go along for the ride and revel in the challenge. It's a really satisfying race to do with great organisation and one of the best race HQ's with proper loo's, places to change, baggage storage and yummy cakes. Can't wait for next year!
