In short: Lovely scenery and a great race In full: Loved it. Henley is a picturesque place and the route made the most of it. The hill was an absolute beast but it just made it all the better when I got over the line for a long overdue new pb. Well organised and the beautiful autumn weather certainly helped. Would recommend. Date of review: October 20, 2014
In short: Great route and scenery, bit of off road and water en-route could be better In full: Loved the scenery and a pretty quick course. Dodgy plastic cups of water en-route and no water anywhere that I could find at the end was disappointing along with the rest of the below average goody bag. Date of review: October 13, 2014
In short: Another great race - never disappoints! In full: This is my 4th year doing Henley and I cannot fault it - good value for money, good location, easy parking and a nice atmosphere.
Quite a few people complained about the limited number of toilets, and I do agree however the instructions do say to arrive at 8.30am which I did, and given it took 15 mins to park, then 10 mins to walk, I was had still time to queue for the toilet, but then it was straight to the race so I guess if you got there any later, they yes you would have struggled to get to the loos.
Marshalls very encouraging throughout, great support - and it remains my PB back in 2010 so I'll be definitely coming back next year! Date of review: October 12, 2014
In short: Excellent race, very well organised. In full: Brilliant race, beautiful scenery, well organised and excellent marshalling (the rain affects them much more than the runners!) Convince yourself the hill isn't really there and the race is much easier. Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: Nice route, NOT 10k though - more like 10.5k!! In full: Ran this in 2013, the route is actually really nice, getting right out into the country. There is a long hill from something like km 1.5 to 3.2. Unrelenting, but relatively gentle until the last 300m. Then a big downhill and a nice fast finish.
BUT the measurement is shocking! My garmin measured it 10.47km, and Mapmyrun even further at 10.6km. The km markers were all over the place - km6 and km10 definitely long and km7 very short.
I don't understand why you would advertise a 10k run and then make it 10.5k!? Well, I think the reason is because it is run at the same time as the Half Marathon, they couldn't get the courses such that they finish at the same point, and couldn't be bothered to have 2 separate finishes.
Nice run, but mildly annoying that the distance measurement is amateur... Date of review: October 13, 2013
In full: This was a good race - the awful weather aside! Plus points include handy parking, great scenery, positive atmosphere, fab medal and lovely warm showers at the rugby club afterwards!!! Downside - not enough portaloos, a killer hill and lots of cow poo in the starting/finishing field! I travelled a long way to get there so probably won't do this run again but I'd still recommend this race! Date of review: October 13, 2013
In short: Great race, if a little wet this year In full: This is my home race so enjoy being able to walk there. This year was wet and a little chilly, but many thanks to all the hardy souls who came out to cheer. Even the hill was O.K. this year, possibly because the rain helped me focus! In short: 10k race tough and badly measured In full: I ran the 10k race and was mainly disappointed due to 2 issues 1) Incorrect measurement and signage. My Garmin 610 measured it at 10.5km, as did Gmaps the next day. The KM markers were inaccurate to - the 1km marker measured about 1.2km by my GPS and confirmed by my pace - I was a good minute longer than normal for a km. Shoddy work really 2) No water in the race bags - instead some godawful energy drink that I couldn;t touch. Had to hunt round the stalls to find one giving out glasses of water
The route itself is varied - flat first 1km or so, then 2.5 km straight uphill without a break, flat to 4km then a sharp downhill to 5km before a lovely flat 2nd half into finish. Plenty of encouragement but some of the marshalling was a bit suspect. The bit at the end of the Long Mile was very narrow making it almost impossible to overtake Date of review: November 28, 2012
In short: Superb course, one mother of a hill just after halfway..... In full: But the run in is straight and encouraging and flat / slight downhill. Really great one to do. Haven't done one for 15 years and this has really got me going again. Date of review: October 16, 2012
