In short: Average in every respect In full: Others have said it all really - quick route through inevitably dull suburbia. Decent pockets of support and loads of water stations - I disagree with some here and found the pouches much better than expected. Marshalls en-route were excellent.
'Race village' was absolute chaos before the start and not much better afterwards - baggage reclaim was being handled by a bunch of bored teens who took your number then wandered off to chat to their mates.
Pre-race info was handled on the cheap - download your own race pack from a hidden corner of the particularly impenetrable website - and the advertised energy drinks never appeared. Signage throughout was terrible - I'm sure the white background signs with all the race branding on them looked really nice on a screen but if you make them too small and put them against any sort of real world background they become invisible pretty quickly.
All that having been said, there was, overall, a reasonable amount of space to run in and the absence of any scenic distraction aids concentration for running at potential - I can't blame anybody but myself for the elementary pacing errors which caused a blow-up in the last 10k and the new PB not hitting the GFA target. In short: Worth the long trip. In full: My 3rd Manchester Marathon and certainly not my last. Deffo a PB course but unfortunately not for me this year after hitting the wall on mile 15-16, the support along the route really is something and the marshals were once again fantastic. I'll be back. Date of review: April 10, 2014
