In short: Brilliant atmosphere and great scenery In full: The only real gripe I have with this race was lack of toilets, more definitely needed. I was late to the start because of this so was penned in with the slower runners.
The pen organisation only works if people put themselves in the right one. This is the same for every race and I spend most of them weaving in and out of the slower runners.
That said this is organised as a fun run so I can't really complain.
The woman on the P.A was extremely negative, making comments about she thought people were in the wrong pens and that some runners were never going to finish in an hour. Guess she thought she was being funny, she wasn't!!
Would definitely run again. Date of review: October 10, 2013
In short: Amazing race for first run In full: My first ever 10KM race and couldn't of picked a better race to do, Nice course well set out. Nice flat course around a beautiful city, amazing support from the people of York as well. Water break was at the right place on the course. The only negative I would have they was no marshalling of starting pens. I went in to the sub 45 starting area, I however spent the first K trying to avoid slower runners and people walking. In short: Well organised (at last...). Great race In full: Finally! The York 10K Run for All was well organised. No traffic problems getting parked, even when arriving at 8am. Well planned start with joggers being walked into the pens in a steady way, so not standing around for ages. And beautiful scenery. I did a PB (chuffed!) Date of review: August 15, 2013
In short: Can't bleive this is my normal stomping ground - it comes into it's own for this! In full: I live near the start of this, so it's very much "home turf" (or tarmac) for me. That said, the odd pothole and speedhump still got me by surprise - I don't literally run in the road that often!
But this year, better than last, I felt, apart from a slightly daffy starting pen process (3 queues - runners, joggers. walkers, and then the lady on the PA being surprised that all the people in the runners queue considered they were going to finish in under one hour, so moved forward into the actual pens for the start!).
The route was better this year - the bit around Racecourse Road at the start rather than at the end, and no doubling back on yourself was a definate improvement.
And on top of that, a great day and I'm proud of my fellow York Citizens for coming out and cheering us along.
Bizarrely, it always tries to rain during my post York 10K BBQ. Can someone have a word about that, please? Date of review: August 15, 2013
In short: My first 10k and loved it! In full: I don't have much to compare this race to, as it was my first... but I thouroughly enjoyed it, and it has definitely spurred me on to take part in more. The support around the course was fab. Can't wait for next year! Date of review: August 6, 2013
In short: Improvements for this year make this a near perfect event. In full: This was the 3rd year I've done this event and ot was the best yet. My major criticism before was of the start being a total free for all, and slower runners getting in the way of everyone. This year, there was a well organised pen system to start everyone in the right order, and people were strongly discouraged from starting in an inappropriate place. It worked brilliantly and this is now a top event for serious runners and beginners alike. Great tech T-shirt, 2 drinks stations, amazing crowd support, flat course, very scenic and central to York and a great start/ finish area! They even removed the out/back sections from the route. The best all round 10k I've ever done. Date of review: August 5, 2013
In short: York, my fave city In full: The race with the best scenery, but, not nearly enough loos, the queues were spectacular. Did anyone measure the course? the switchback at the end was missing and the last K seemed to go very quickly. Otherwise, a great run, I'll be back next year. Date of review: August 5, 2013
In short: Fantastic race, well organised & great route In full: Great organisation - more emphasis on getting people in the correct start pens, best course yet for this race, fab tech top & a top for running all 3 10k this year. Date of review: August 5, 2013
