In short: The perfect Christmas party race In full: A cracking way to shed some calories prior to the Christmas break, laughs, mud tears, mud, food and beer, and more mud ! Well done Mud Crew, another corker. Fantastic after race party. Date of review: January 14, 2015
In short: Perfect way to end the running year - mud, hills, water, beer ... and mud! In full: This event is fast becoming a winter alternative to the ever-popular Grizzly. It's the perfect 'race' to end the year, with nine miles of off-road muddiness. The organisers have gone out of their way to make this as non-competitive as possible, while still remaining a challenge. Meandering across boggy fields, stumbling along river beds, and dragging ourselves up ridiculously steep hills, up to 500 'runners' braved the chilly winds and waist high ponds to complete two laps of the 4.5 mile course. Really enjoyed that slog through the purposely dug muddy trench? Great, you can do it again in about an hour, right after another 500 people have been through it! The sound of dozens of children shouting "BELLY FLOP, BELLY FLOP" as you approach the main water hazard should say it all really. And did I mention half the competitors ran in costume?
Organisation by Mud Crew was up to the usual high standards of one of their events, with dry changing areas, free drink and mince pies and a disco to follow. Well priced hot food was available too. The event raised over £2,000 for Children's Hospice South West, so it's hard to imagine anyone finding anything to criticise. Not surprisingly this is one of top rated off-road events in the country, and I will definitely be back next year.
In short: Most fun I have had with my Trainers on, mud glorious ,mud In full: A very unique, extreme course, really great fun, excellent marshalls and one tough mother of a hill!
