In short: rip off- 2011 run
In full: the race itself was good however have never crossed a line before and given so little. an apple and a bottle of water, if u wanted a place mat with a picture of the route on it- it'll cost u an extra 3quid. really bad value, then an extra 2 quid to park on the rugby pitch. lol, could be a really good 1 for the calender but sadly its really let down by organisers being so dam tight.

In short: Water stations & support excellent. Prizes dreadful, cheapskates
In full: This race report is for the 2008 race.

The support & the water stations were excellent & cannot be faulted, as was the scenery. The water was in bottes too, but....

The last 0.1 (ish) of this race finishes ona rugby pitch which was really hard to run on as it was full of holes.

When you finished the race you were funnelled through & could go & get a bottle of water & were told to move away from the area. There was someone there handing out slate coasters to certain people, I later found out that you had to pre-pay for one of these. One man in front of me, picked one up & promptly had it taken from him & was told that he could not have one as he hadn't paid for one. One lady in our group HAD paid for one, but was told she could not have one, she said she was taking one a she had paid for it. The actual prizes were a joke too, they only awarded the FIRST man & FIRST woman, then first in each vet category, nothing for 2nd or 3rd. The actual prizes were all the same too, they won what looked like a photocopied picture of Derwentwater, the except that the 1st man & womans were in cheap black frames. Oh... & the first man was actually a V40 & they gave him the prize for this too. which I have seen before, but in this instance, it was exactly the same cheap picture & the winner didn't want it so he tried to find the details for the next V40 who came 4th. Then they had the cheek to say that the coasters were still available for sale at a cost £3.00 on a first come first served basis.

The entry on the day for this race was £13.00. I know I could have saved money by pre-entering, but I didn't know until the day before that I was going to have a go at it.

In short: A cracking race - hilly to me! - undulating to others!!
In full: A very scenic route from keswick around dewentwater via some hilly roads. The route is challenging unless you have done a lot of hill training!I ran 10 mins slower than my P.B but if that is not a problem then i would recommend this run for the challenge.(I used it as hill training for the Blackpool marathon in June.)The organisation was a bit lacking-a few signs around Keswick would have avoided the search for the rugby club and the parking on a flood plain (the rugby field)is not a good idea with all the rain in the lakes!! Getting bogged in and then waiting ages to get out of Keswick on a bank holiday is surely something that could kill off this charming little race & that would be a shame!!

In short: Excellent scenery and a couple of challenging hills.
In full: A number of hills a couple of them very challenging. Rain before the race turned the finish into a muddy trek around the rugby fields. The race is still special with a beautiful setting and a feeling of achievement when you cross the finish line.

In short: marshalling somewhere between poor and dangerous
In full: very pleasant first 8 or so miles to Grange, the road up Borrodale was horrid and thanks to the high volume of traffic a bit like running a half marathon up the hard shoulder of the M6! Water stations were fantastic, but despite this, I'll probably stick to the coniston 14 next year - all the joys of the lakes with none of the downsides!

In short: Cracking race - a couple of toughish hills, but scenery makes up for it. Traffic over the last 3 miles or so a bit intimidating and spoils it a bit.

In short: Awesome, I'm Still Smiling
In full: I still struggle to believe I beat my PB (by 47 secs) with some of the hills on the course. The scenery is inspiring, the organisation is better than many 'bigger' events, the people are friendlier, and even the muddy field at the end made me smile! This will remain on my race calender for years to come.
