In short: An excellent early summer run in Wargrave In full: I did this race last year and this one was a super day, probably a bit too hot really, but shouldn't complain. The course was the same, mildly undulating in places, but the highlight must be the marshals and water station helpers: just full of encouragement and enthusiasm! In a small change, we were given a nice Wargrave 10K drinks bottle at the end instead of a medal - as I'm not a big medal fan, this is definitely an improvement. Another great race and I can certainly see myself going back for the third time in a row next year. Date of review: June 17, 2014
In short: Great organisation, very enjoyable In full: I ran this race for the first time yesterday and I really found the organisation spotless, from the numbers collection to the very high number of marshalls and the cheering crowd at the end.
The course is enjoyable although not very fast if you are chasing a PB (a few hills in the first half). It is not a traffic free but the guys with the bikes at the front are doing a very good job at making sure the cars slow down, so this is a safe race.
I will definitely be back in the future, and recommend this race. Well done Wargrave Runners! Date of review: June 9, 2014
In short: Hot trot round the country lanes. In full: My third time running Wargrave, this was by far the hottest. Very well organised, good parking on an adjacent field and slick number collection. Thank goodness there were 3 water stations, we really needed them, and a big thank you to the guy with the hose. The first aiders were kept busy as the heat bought a few casualties, but they appeared to be dealt with very efficiently. The course felt a lot hillier than previous years, but I put that down to struggling in the heat. Lovely local race worth turning out for on a Sunday morning. Would have preferred a medal, but loved the Mars bar. Date of review: June 9, 2014
In short: Just need a fridge for the Mars! In full: Further proof (not that it's really needed) that runners know how to put on a great race for runners. Enough undulations to make it interesting, sufficient shade to make the heat bearable and loads of supportive marshals and spectators. Souvenir bottle and mug at the finish where you can also enjoy the brownies made by the Brownies, but in an ideal world my Mars bar would have been a bit less runny!! Date of review: June 8, 2014
In short: Good little village-green community race In full: A fine local race along country lanes, start and finish on the village green. Big thanks to the locals for the water stations on a very hot day and especially to the Mums and brownies/guides for the tea and cake stall. Most civilized. I prefer a medal to a mug, but that's just me. Date of review: June 8, 2014
In short: A gem of a race tucked out of the away from traffic. In full: This is a lovely, challenging race. I have left out the word 'but' in this opening sentence, because had it not been challenging, it may not draw the crowds in… The course starts off on quite roads and along tracks, then runs up and over Crazies Hill, making the ascents Playful and the descents a pleasure. Adding in the countryside setting, I rate this run very highly and it even has a grassy finish which I very much like. All of these things take it away from being just another one of those road races, to something a little bit special, not just because I got a PB... Honest!.. Lots of water stops along the way, manned by smiley brownies and more of the same back at the finish area with cakes and hot drinks. All very nice and a good way to guarantee a return visit next year. Date of review: June 12, 2013
In short: Perfect cool June day ... for running In full: I agree with the other commentators. It's well organised right from the parking to the finish and an uplifting event which does a small club like Wargrave proud. The course is not the easiest, but a negative split one as the back half is all downward. And great weather for running this time too. Enjoyed it a lot. Back next year I hope, Date of review: June 10, 2013
In short: as usual excellent organisation and nice support and marshalling In full: ideal running temperature yesterday so I was hopeful of a half decent time(for me) and I wasn't disappointed.run this race about 5 times now and it is always well organised and a lovely scenic route....no complaints whatsoever. marshalling and support very good considering the rural route this run incorporates. definitely be back again next year! In short: Excellent race In full: Very nice course - I was pleased that the hills had been "talked up" to me beforehand as they weren't as bad as I had expected! Thought I ws slowing at halfway but that's when the course profile starts to go mainly downhill towards the finish, so I resumed my speed in the second half and was very pleased with my finish time, with the lovely encouragement I met with along the road leading to the rec field, and with the welcome from supporters at the finish. There's obviously a reason this race seems to be so popular! Date of review: June 10, 2013
