In short: The hills are alive with the sound of runners In full: I like this race a lot. I love the hills even more. Well organised, great support from the people of High Wycombe, nice medal, goody bag and technical t shirt. A brutal hill at the start which added to the challenge but nothing too bad after that with a few ups and downs. Date of review: July 24, 2013
In short: Half Marathon Magic In full: The residents of High Wycombe were amazingly welcoming and gave amazing support. So many people out on every corner cheering us along.
Some lovely stretches of the course showing off High Wycombe and its local villages.
The set-up was impressive, great family day out. All went smoothly. An abundance of marshalls for at least the first 9 miles / couple of hours.
Loved the wet sponges - just what was needed in the humidity. water in plastic cups but seemed to work ok as there were plenty of them.
Would be nice to have a fuel station but my fault for not bringing any gels.
Fantastic goody bag and medal and tee for a super cheap price.
My own gripe (cause I can always find one!): Wish the road closures that had been planned / had signs up for until 1pm had been kept open bit later than 11am. Us slower runners had a couple of long stretches of road around mile 8-11 I think with not much support, few marshalls and fast cars whizzing by. Always makes you feel slower and/or not part of the race when plodding along on your own and the marshalls / support is almost gone and the roads have been re-opened early! In short: very organised, very welcoming, thanks to all In full: marshalling superb, plenty of support en route and an all-round good atmosphere. Really enjoyed it. The hill near the start very hard but well worth it. Date of review: July 22, 2013
In short: Running in a suit officially 'Not A Good Idea' In full: I ran this year in a suit & tie, running as a lawyer (from Kidd Rapinet, Aylesbury) for the Florence Nightingale Hospice. Man alive it was a bit hot even with the cloudy conditions. Good banter with jolly locals. Excellent organisation. I can confirm even an old M&S suit isn't really suited to racing. I wish I'd entered the 10k! http://www.justgiving.com/Mark-Studdart1?utm_source=emailvision&utm_medium=email%2B&utm_campaign=firstdonation_auto_email Date of review: July 22, 2013
In short: Lovely race with a great medal In full: A great race. Did the 10k a few years ago so knew about the hill at the start but that didn't help me. Really friendly and fun. Not one for PBs if you don't race up hills but lovely with a great medal and tshirt Date of review: July 21, 2013
In short: Well organised race, good for a PB In full: A nice race through the town with plenty of support. Well organised, and lots of encouragement from the marshals. Good for a PB, although the narrow exit from the start could slow things down a bit for those towards the back of the field. Good value - nice medal, technical T shirt and a decent goody bag as well. In short: very well organised with great marshals and good support from public In full: lovely 5 miler around the flat closed streets of Marlow. Well planned and organised especially at the finish. Generous goody bag included an excellent medal, t-shirt and many other useful bits & pieces. Highly recommended. Date of review: May 12, 2013
