In short: A small but perfectly formed race! In full: An interesting almost all off road course. The long rough grass along the river & climbing the many stiles was energy sapping but worth it for the vocal support at the finish line. Date of review: August 20, 2014

In short: really great run In full: just got back and no problems at all weather was kind even arranged a lovely drizzle of rain near end , but course is generally flat few mild slopes and paths nice and big over 95% of course , really excellent and happy and will be back in 2014 :)
In short: pleasant route following an old railway line and the river In full: Enjoyable race even though it was the hottest day of the year so far. The route has been well planned, with a short walk to the start meaning the start of the race is on the wide railway line to prevent backing up early on. It alternates between the railway line and the river bank to break things up, the path along the river is a bit uneven so felt harder. Generally wide enough to overtake when you need to, and mostly good underfoot apart from one short very muddy section. Due to the heat the organisers had added an extra water stop which was much appreciated, and the race was very well marshalled. Also a big thanks to the lady with a hose pipe shower near the end - that was lovely. My only criticism is that it would have been nice for the route and location of water stations to be available before the day so your spectators can work out where to go and you can decide how much water to carry. Other than that an excellent friendly race. Date of review: August 20, 2012
In short: Flat, varied and scenic route In full: What a fabulous race. Wonderfully flat course and some lovely sun thrown in. Thoroughly enjoyed it bar a little wobble about mile 7 as it was so hot I felt a bit feint. Great organisation though as at the last minute they added a whole load more water stops. Would definitely do this race again. Date of review: August 20, 2012
In short: good race that just needs some slight improvements In full: having run this race 4 times its such a shame it has declined over the years, some of the fun has been taken out of the course like the corn fields but it is still a lovely route. i was suprised by the low turn out it was a lovely day ok a bit to warm and i was not aware of any other local races that would have been the cause of a low turn out. i feel the organisers need to look at improving the race or we may not have a henfield half in years to come. In short: Declining..... In full: I did this in 2006 and 2007, and felt that this was a special event. Low key, and a bit of a drive, with nothing extra to offer, just the course, it was special because of that course, and the relaxed low key Sunday morning feel about it. I found Henfield itself a quaint village - nothing remarkable, but it has some nice pubs, and genuine English feel about it. The course through the countryside was very attractive - picking your way through cornfields, and along disused railway lines, beside a lazy river, and through cow fields was very charming. And then to come back to laze on the field by the leisure centre while people had a BBQ and chatted, and then to wander off to the pub for a pint. Great. But the course has changed, and the number of entrants has dropped, and the organisation seems to have drifted away. There is now nothing on offer when you get back. No club atmosphere, and no BBQ. The runners are friendly and chatty, and the marshals are supportive, but there's something missing about the whole affair. I didn't like the half mile walk to the start. Nor did I like the tedium of much of the course. The changes now mean that the course consists either of running along the disused railway (out and back) or along the river bank, with very little else. I have fond memories of this race, but I may not be back.....
