In short: New Year pipe opener in stately home park In full: Run in better weather conditions than 2014 race, the Romsey 5 Miler has improved over previous Industrial estate course and in organisation. Race Start is an easy walk from Town Centre car parks. Three flat circuits on hard surface, no mud to speak of this year. Well marshalled, slick finish area. Only minor gripes: why not cover the two cattle grids to avoid bunching ? Also, was it really necessary to have Captain Jobsworth with clipboard barking at runners wearing their earphones? I don't wear so not affected but slightly sour note on a potentially lovely day. Date of review: January 27, 2015
In short: Underwhelming. In full: If such a term as over-marshalling existed, then this race would define it. Not only that, but the whole atmosphere felt like being watched over by angry P.E. teachers. This was my second time doing it (only because it was a suitable race in the timeframe for my training), and I won't be doing it again. Non-existent goody bag and cheap-looking medal. Lack of a genuine atmosphere. The whole thing felt like a training run. Bit of a bottle neck right at the start but otherwise good for PB potential. If you're training for another event in the near future and you want a flat race for a good PB, then go for this; but don't expect anything else beyond that.
In full: 5th time for me, better start this year with the inflatable start line. I never mind doing laps and the cows this year were something different to look at. Easy parking and whilst I was running my husband and son went back and had a coffee. Cheap and cheerful and nice medal too. Date of review: January 25, 2015
In short: could do better In full: weather was terrible and trying to park was an issue.narrow start and congested on an uninspiring 3 ish lap square course,pb potential but disapointing.advertised as hot chocolate and goody bag,i finished half way and they had ran out of drink, and cheap medal and a banana not good for a steep price.i enjoyed the old course on the industrial estate far more.i wont be back Date of review: March 13, 2014
In short: Good race shame about chip problem but it was sorted! In full: Race ran smoothly was a fast course, I didn't hang around long enough to comment about running out of hot drinks. There was a long queue though so more servers might have reduced that!
I thought the goody bag was adequate for the entry price! The water, banana and sweets were welcome
As for the timing problems it was annoying but a message to the chip timing company solved that and I now have my correct time! My time was initially out by around 40 seconds too! Date of review: January 31, 2014
In short: Concept Sports.. You should be ashamed! In full: Timings issues with chips means my PB is now unofficial. Concept Sports are not replying to emails and their phone does not connect. Goody bag had a banana in it! Organisers clearly in it for the money and have now done a bunk. Date of review: January 28, 2014
In short: Didn't see any of the problems In full: Fast & flat as usual, despite the terrible weather. Didn't have any timing issues (official result only 1 second different from my watch), and the goody bag and hot drink is a step up from the plastic cup of water provided previously, so I clearly didn't suffer from the problems that some others did. For running in Broadlands, and the PB potential, plenty of runners will keep coming back. Date of review: January 27, 2014
In short: Really not worth the effort In full: Agree with earlier comment. Cheapest tacky medal, 'goody' bag consisted of a bottle of water, a small banana and a child's portion of Haribo sweets. Clock timing way out as noted above. Just not worth the effort. Date of review: January 27, 2014
In short: Poor organisation by concept sports again In full: I do this race because it's local but the organisers seem to come up with different ways of letting us down every year. Apparently this year it was the fault of the rain (coz rain in this country is a really unusual event) The timing was way out, the time they gave me was 40 odd seconds slower than both my garmin and their own race clock, which was apparently due to timing box getting flooded and paper back ups getting wet. It was also advertised as a free hot drink at the end (which would have been very welcome), however by the time I finished 299 out of 405 they had run out of hot drinks!!!! If this was a Park Run or even a club organised event then would say fair enough but this is a private company who should be providing a professional service. Yet again a good course in nice location let down by poor organisation by concept sports I'm afaird, as I've said previously on Concept sports events I'd do it again but only because it's local.
