In short: An enjoyable run for my first 10k
In full: This was my first 10k and got me hooked! Nothing amazing about the scenery - it starts in a park but is run on the roads, although you do run past some very nice houses! There was a good atmosphere and a group warm-up at the start. A few inclines but nothing too challenging. Well organised and timing chips were provided. I've done five 10k races now (I'm reviewing this 9 months after the event) and this one had the nicest medal (not that that's why we do it!). Fruit and chocolate bars were handed out with the bottles of water at the end, which was a nice touch. Looking forward to the 2010 race!

In short: WONT HAVE A BAD WORD SAID ABOUT THIS RACE.
In full: Croydon was my home town for many years and the Croydon 10k was my 1st ever race in 2001.
Although I moved to the Suffolk coast in 2007 I will continue to come back for this race, it may not be the prettiest but its well organised ans quick.
Got a chip time of 40:19 yesterday knocking best part of a minute of my previous pb, thank you Croydon and thank you Croydon Harriers.

In short: A race that lacks a little oomph.
In full: I don't know what it is about the Croydon 10k, but it really should be better than it is. Maybe I've been spoilt with races recently, but the course just seems so dull for about three-quarters of it, with most of it run on pavements, and the start is a bit of a shambles. That said, there are some positive: fast times can be run and the fruit and chocolate at the end was a welcome touch. I know that Croydon can't really compete with the scenery of other local races, but I just think the it has a feel of being shoved away in the corner somewhere.

In short: Good race
In full: Friendly, well organised, enough toilets and an efficient left bags operation. Particularly liked the teas and cakes at the end! As previous poster said, commentator was rather tiresome. Given the age profile of the runners ie older, slightly surprising and disappointing to see lack of vets' prizes.

In short: A fun course with few flat bits and a nice start-finish area
In full: Chip timing should mean chip mats at start and finish, not just finish. The narrow start means that losing a minute or two is inevitable unless you start at the front. The commentator was rather annoying; if I'd been one of the many race officials, helpers or marshals I think I'd have been extremely tired of him by the end!
But those two gripes aside, this was an excellent race. Two water stations even!!! and we know how lots of beginners appreciate that! The marhsals made this the best-marshaled race I have ever taken part in. The course was sufficiently challenging to keep you on your toes, yet not so much that it left you staggering the last mile home. There were loads of loos and a fab baggage dump, under cover and manned by friendly efficient scouts. The goody bag was just a botle of water and an apple but frankly I don't do races for the goody bags, do I?

In short: KM markers a mile out and chip timing equally inaccurate, however all is fogiven as I set a PB despite the hills.
