In short: Not across the bay, but still a great race! In full: A real shame that the Cross Bay Challenge was not across the bay this year. My fourth time doing this race, and once you set off, in practical terms, it makes no difference where you start and finish, but Cross Bay should be Cross Bay. End of. That said, it's still a great run. There's no run like it and of course I'll still do it every year. The channels weren't so deep this year, but the headwind was really strong. Extra jellyfish this year too! Organisation perfect as usual. I got a medal to match 3 I already have, so I think the medal should be better and different in future years. Same goes for the t-shirt, which I didn't buy as I already have one exactly the same. Overall it's unique and a lovely run, but please revert to making it across the bay, make each years's medal and shirt unique and yes, charge a little bit extra to cover that. Entry numbers seem to be going down, so please make it more attractive! I don't want this face to end due to lack of interest. (And RW - why isn't 2015 an option for this review?) In short: Magnificently enjoyable! In full: My third time across the bay, and it never gets any easier. The water crossings seemed to come earlier (mile 2 was my slowest) and more often than previous years, and then a long stretch onto a headwind before turning for come (which came after 13.4 miles). Definitely harder than last year, but it's called a 'Challenge' for good reason. Clockwork organisation as usual, great weather and wonderful scenery (if you took the opportunity to look around). One of my two favourite runs of the year! Date of review: July 8, 2014
In short: Cracking half, PBs out of the window I'm afraid ! In full: If you want a race thats different then this is the one.Friendly and good organisation, only crowd support are the marshals! But everyone cheering at the finish in Flookburgh.Make a week-end of it and stay over there are plenty of good B&Bs. In short: The best race of the year! In full: Thank you CancerCare for putting on another spectacular race. The weather was perfect, the atmosphere was fabulous and both runners and organisers were very friendly indeed. It was a much tougher race this year but that did not dampen my enjoyment of being out in that unique environment. 10/10.
In short: Unique in its nature and with a real 'Dunkirk' feel, makes this really rather special. In full: A unique race and highly enjoyable for that reason. Aspects of its organisation could be tightened up (signage to start and finish?) but the race itself was enormously well drilled by friendly and competent support staff. There is, simply, no other race like it. My feet were soaked within 200 metres, and stayed that way; I waded through thigh deep water on several occasions (the Kent channel was a battle); and then, for the second half of the race, we were turned into a stiff wind. Rarely has a finish line been so welcome (and you can see it from a few miles away). I was 30 minutes slower than my usual Half Marathon time (tells you how tough it is) but was tired, happy and with a real sense of achievement. Would I run it again? Hell, yeah! In short: It's as good as the reviews said... In full: I tend to be from the 'horses for courses' school of thought when it comes to runs. I have done some which were well reviewed and I didn't enjoy and other which were badly rated and I loved. So with some skepticism I journey from London to do the Cross Bay Challenge and it was bloody brilliant. Unrivalled scenery, very challenging, real comradeship among the runnersabd well organised. I've done a number of the EnduranceLife runs and think this surpasses them in both challenge and scenery. Couldn't recommend more! Date of review: July 6, 2014
In short: wet and challenging In full: Boy they weren't kidding when they called it 'challenge' - thigh deep channels with a wicked current, the first 7 miles of pretty much ankle deep water (and the channels) and a headwind for the next 5 miles. A great run however with friendly runners and well organised. thanks all Date of review: July 6, 2014
In short: I LOVE IT, it's my favourite race of the race In full: My favourite race of the here, I love it we normally camp in a lovely camping and enjoy a lovely running week end on the sea and beach, challenging but lovely race. I am up for it every single here. Date of review: January 21, 2014
