In short: Brilliant race. Can't wait till next year.
In full: First trail race i have done and i am very impressed. I am only 16 and so was probably the youngest there so can safely say it is very beginner friendle. Organisation skills and marshalling was great so it was impossible to take a wrong turning. Brilliant views when you make it to the top. will definately do this run again. :)

In short: Fine addition to the lakeland trail series
In full: Lovely scenic course and another great race in the lakeland trail series. Weather was kind on this occasion (unlike Coniston and Derwentwater). Hills were not too severe though it was tricky underfoot in places. Nice speedy downhill finish. Plenty of entertainment to keep the family occupied. Possibly a bit expensive due to no t-shirt, meal or goody bag. Free photo and kendal mint cake I suppose, but that's not much for close to £20.

In short: yet again another marvelous run from the VO2 Max team!
In full: This was the first of the Dirty Double - a fantastic weekend in itself! As always, things ran like clockwork - the challenge run was there for the less competative runners, and the trail race for the more so! The course was nice and varied - happy and cheerful and very supprotive marshalls on the way round - included in the price was also a race picture :o) Wonderful cakes at the finish provided by the local school, and a great atmosphere! We had a some first-time trail runners with us in our group and they thoroughly enjoyed it too!

Great atmosphere, Superb views over Patterdale and Ullswater.... superb organisation....

When can I sign up for next year??

In short: Top race
In full: The weather was great but even without that this would have been a top event. A smashing new course, that was challenging but a gentler loosener for the harsher (but even more scenic - if that is possible) Ulswater the next day. Well done all at VO Max yet another top performance for the full crew

In short: Beautiful Race - but expensive!
In full: I have to say all the Lakeland Trail races are fabulous events and courses. The Helvellyn Trail is a good course, one uphill, then several miles of a stony tracks and then a big downhill to finish. I enjoyed the race and would recommend it to anyone.
However, I do think someone is creaming a good profit out of this - more than 500 competitors at £20 a head. Not even a t-shirt at the finish - just a cup of water and some kendal mintcake (yuk!). The prizes looked pretty measely too considering the funds. Maybe i don't understand the costs involved but there are many much cheaper fell and trail races around.
I think the organisers put a lot of effort into the "family" atmosphere at these events and include loads of kids races too. Some may like this but others won't - hanging round in the cold for hours for the prize giving is not everyone's idea of fun.

In short: A fantastic new addition to the lakeland trails. Some challenging bits to run. More fantastic scenery than you can shake a stick at. I'm going back next week and I've signed up for as many of these as I can for next year already.
In full: Warning - these runs could put you off road running in town forever!!!
