In short: A great start to the racing year
In full: A good, old-fashioned road-race, this.

Starting from Morpeth, you are lead to the start-line by bag-pipe players. Then you're off. It took a little while to get going amongst the crowd but it soon thins out.

As I say, a real old road race, so don't go if you want nice scenery, go because of the tradition (one of the oldest races), and the atmosphere.

Important note: they don't tell you in the race pack, but the buses to the start go from the car park *at the back* of the town hall. I recommend getting the bus rather than make your own way there.

In short: Seemed like quite a lot of uphill compared to down and a freezing cold day - took off a layer at 5 miles then promptly put it back on again! Very much enjoyed it though.
