In short: Superb scenery, atmosphere / cameraderie great, end of race refreshments magnificent. In full: Fantastic course. A new race which deserves to increase in popularity in the future. Mix of terrain and views make this one of the best courses around. Congatulations to the organiser for putting on such a great race at the first attempt. His immediate post-race interview shows the organiser is keen to take on board all comments. Signs were adequate, but it took a lot of confidence to carry on in the hope that there would be a sign somewhere - there always was. More signs and bigger ones would be more reassuring. Apart form half a mile of quiet road all was on rough ground and was definitely a tough 11 miler. The slog from 8 to 10 miles was a real test if 10 miles is your normal limit - it was a real test! Support this race, do it next year; it must become a fixture. Date of review: November 24, 2011
In short: Friendly race with great scenery. Hard work up those hills but did have a few easier miles along the way. Very hot and dry, would be interesting and alot slower in the wet. Relaxed atmoshpere and great flapjack. Date of review: October 11, 2011
In short: Superb venue, great scenery, nice cakes, route signage could be better In full: This was the inaugral race and a great start of what could be a popular future event with a few tweaks of improvement. Very tough first 5 miles including running up Butser hill! More gentle 2nd half with a nice downhill to the finish. Fantastic scenery and multi-terrain. It would be a real hard challenge in the wet!
Very unseasonal hot, dry weather this year made the race even harder, particularly with only 1 water stop. I'm sure the organiser will improve this for the future if more unseasonal weather.
Perhaps better route signage would also improve the event and minimise frustration and anyone getting lost. Several key points were unmarked or had limited marking. In addition, maybe prizes aswell for ladies and/or age categories, particularly if the race grows in the future.
I'd definietly do this race again and will highly recommend it to others in the hope that it will become a successful, popular race. It deserves to be.
Many thanks to everyone involved in the organisation, the lovely cakes and refreshments and the marshalls. It's well worth a trip to do this race. What more can you ask for? Mark it in your calendar for next year. Date of review: October 3, 2011
In short: Good race. The waymarking could have been better, but this was the first year it's run. I'm sure they'll get it right next year. Good refreshments, nice touch. I'll be back! Date of review: October 3, 2011
In short: A real challenge of a course In full: This was the first year of the QE 11 Trail race and the day was great. Small field made the race seem friendly and welcoming. Course was a real challenge which was not helped by high temperature. Hopefully will be back next year to try and better my time. Date of review: October 3, 2011
