In short: 20 miles and no official result!
In full: The four laps of this course wasn't as bad as you might think four laps could be. Of course it's around one of the dullest parts of the UK but it doesn't get to you as much as you might think. The course was very accurate and flat.

The locals seem to have an absolute hatred for the race though. The organisers don't get any roads closed so you're sort of competing against angry drivers at various points of the course, some of which accelerate to try to take you out. The marshals mainly just smile and say well done which is lovely of them but one marshal waved a car down a road just as I was crossing so not entirely sure she warranted a yellow jacket as I had incorrectly presumed their remit was to make the race as safe as they could. You also get people itching to pull into their driveways as you run past so you have to alter your pace to avoid getting mangled in their wheels.

At this point in time I have had to use my Garmin for timing. After running 20 miles for the first time ever I would've liked an official result but it seems that gremlins in the works prevented my chip from registering on the finish line (it beeped on all of the laps just not at the end I don't think). I have emailed them to ask why i'm not in the official results, but they haven't responded.

The toilet queue is not worth bothering with at the start as it is far too long, everyone opted to pee in the bushes including a few females. There were no goodies at the end. The medal was alright though.

The army cadets on the route handing out drinks were very good though and they had bins for the cups at all the right places.

I only ran this in prep for the Brighton Marathon and I think the organisers know this is a terrible race that people just use to train for marathons. However, we should really call their bluff and do a 20 mile training run without using this naff event.

In short: Good training run that you can dress up as a family weekend to Brighton!
In full: Multiple laps so if your taking family, you get to see them lots and its a nice location.
You can dress it up as a family weekend to Brighton as part of your spring marathon training.

In short: Excellently Organised Dull Race
In full: Really well organised, flat as a board and some nice bits through Ferring but ultimately 4 laps around part of my home town does nothing for the boredom factor. Marshalls were great, nice medal, perfect measurement, flat and results were out straight away - perfect training run.

In short: brilliant
In full: The marshalls were simply lovely, was the first time I had done 20m and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think I came 473 out of 475 so arguable whether you can call it a PB - but hey I will improve on it next year - Lovely day out - will be back

In short: Godo race for those in marathon training
In full: The organisers have clearly put some extra thought in the race (based on my previous years of running the route) but let down slightly by the same old problem - the loos. How on earth can any running based club/race organiser opt for just 7 x loos considering the potential for 600 runners?

The public toilets which were used in previous years were locked - hopefully the council can be talked in to opening these for the use they are intended for next year.

Otherwise fantastic weather and a fast course. Somewhat boring though with 4 x laps but you have to appreciate the task involved in closing more roads or marshalling longer routes.

Thanks for a good race, back next year but please sort out the above!

In short: Slickly organised, excellent pre-marathon race
In full: This was my first go at the Worthing 20 mile race. 4 laps of the same course had previously put me off, but actually, it works really well. The event is extremely well organised, there were water / energy drink stations at two points on the course and the marshalls were extremely supportive and friendly. A jolly nice medal and goody bag was the icing on the cake. The sunshine and lack of strong winds helped, but it was a great race and I will definitely be back next year.

In short: Great organisation!
In full: The marshalls were brilliant, goody bag, water stations, course measurement was spot on according to my garmin, refreshments afterwards, the medal, email updates prior to the race and the results being up so quick.

Will definitely be back next year!

In short: Great training run for a Spring marathon
In full: I know 4 laps isn't for everyone and it isn't all that scenic in places but this is a well organised event, with great marshalls, which is ideal preparation for a Spring marathon. I think it is great as it encourages you to do the required 20 mile training run and you have all the support and water you need.
