In short: Well organised, but the uphill bits were hard... In full: My first half marathon, and I enjoyed it, although the hills were hard work. Very well organised, good marshalls and a clear route. Date of review: April 9, 2013
In short: Great race, well-organised, friendly marshals In full: One of the cheapest and best Half Marathons out there. Lots of local non-affiliated runners but also attracting some of the fastest Surrey runners. Sandilands clubhouse and grounds make it a lovely, relaxed location with option of a beer afterwards! In short: Well organised low key local race In full: A little bit more hilly than expected, a few short sharp ones that hurt at the end. Two loops so you have to do them twice as well! Otherwise was well organised, some support but fairly low key. Enjoyed it as lived locally but probably wouldnt travel too far for it. Date of review: April 9, 2013
In short: The best marshalled evernt I've had the pleasure to take part in In full: Great race. The marshalls were absolutely fantastic. Well thought out route and good facilities. Surprisingly even the weather was good as well. Date of review: April 8, 2013
In short: Well organised enjoyable half In full: This was a very well organised enjoyable half. It was a double loop which makes it great for chasing a fast time and it was reasonably flat. Went through nice parts of Croydon and has changed my perception of the borough. Date of review: April 7, 2013
In short: No goody bags for slow runners :-( In full: Today was the first time I had ran this particular half marathon.
It was very difficult to find the post code for the venue, as it was not on the site and not sent out or on any of the information. Eventually I found it on a google search. I think next time Croydon hold a race, it would be helpful if they could send the post code out in the information.
They asked people to come via public transport, which I do think is a little unreasonable, after a race, you want to just jump straight in your car and go. I had absolutely no problem with parking at all. The residents seemed honoured that a race was being held in there street and pleased to see the runners!
I found the atmosphere very clubby and clicky, and as I don't belong to a club or want to belong to one, I felt very left out!
I worked really hard at this race, and this was a pre London marathon warm up for me, and I was upset at the end when there where no goodie bags left! Croydon knew how many runners where coming today, as there was no late entry on the day. I am a bit slower than some and was running at the back. There where also many runners behind me, that also worked hard to finish too, only to be told there was no goodie bag for them ether! I think if anyone deserves a goodie bag, it is the runners at the back. Such a shame!
Some of the marshal where very helpful and friendly. Thank you for giving up your day! It was a shame that RAYNET where not there though they add a feeling of security to these events.
Next year I will look for a different race to run, as my pre London warm up. Date of review: April 7, 2013
In short: Well organised as ever In full: Not the flatest of courses but nothing too steep. Great facilities at the start and finish and a big thank you to all the marshalls, who were excellent! Date of review: April 7, 2013
In short: a very well organised race In full: i travelled from west sussex for this race i thought i knew what the course would be like having lived in west croydon years ago but i was surprised how hilly this side of croydon was ! this was a very well organised race, excellent marshalls and a lovely medal. really enjoyed it and will be back again next year. In short: Superbly organised by young Jameson - and don't believe all you read in the press about hte area. Ask those who actually come from elsewhere about their experience of the route. Date of review: April 7, 2012
