In short: Lovely Course, shame about the medal and no goody bag (as advertised) In full: Entry and pre race info was good, I couldn't find my race number on their website prior to the event and had to ask for assistance. On the day the start and car park were well marked with plenty of parking and only a short walk to race HQ. Facilities at race HQ were good, plenty of toilets. The course itself was well marshalled with clear mile markers and ample water stations, with my own drinks out on them, which is always a nice touch when water is handed to you in cups. The course is 2 laps, the first lap the hills to Beccles really didn't feel all that bad, however the second lap felt like I was climbing Everest!! However the cheery marshalls at the water stops helped me round. The finish area was good, clear of spectators with chip timing. My biggest gripe about the day was the poor quality medal!!! Come on Bungay Black Dog, surely you can do better?? I'd be happy to pay a few pounds more for a medal which at least has the year on it. Very disappointing, also no goody bag as advertised. All in all a nice course well organised, friendly people, rubbish cheap medal Date of review: April 19, 2013

In full: Bungay marathon is held in Suffolk obviosuly and many people think there are no hills in Suffolk, well they are wrong! You arrive at the venue, loads of marshals advising where to leave the car, field close by but there is disabled parking at the venue. Registration, simple and easy to find. Nice touch having some stalls with sports wear and jewellery gifts. You start first part of race gently until around 1.5 miles and you then have 5-6 miles of undulating hills :). This is on a busy country road which is not closed off so I did get the locals shouting out at me but in supportive way. The remainder of first half is down quiet country roads. You repeat the lap again. It was a very hot day so welcomed the 12-13 drink stations. Plenty of St John Ambulance personnel who helped with dreaded blisters bursting. The marshals along the way were supportive and lovely. Good photographer on the day, nice touch with pictures. Lovely medal and welcome at the end and I was provided with water and snack. It is a challenge and as a slower runner I felt supported too. Date of review: April 15, 2013

In short: Best Marathon i,ve done! In full: Really can,t fault this race-But what else do you expect from a BARR Gold graded event?-Knocked about 40 mins off my previous marathon time (Still waiting for my time to be published-But it,s only the next morning, So no worries!)Very hot day, Own drinks allowed on the course, And the wonderful hospitality of Bungay,s Black Dog Running Club hosting the event!-I,m not a Marathon runner,Halfs are my normal distance But if i was i would thoroughly recommend this race, Sure you don,t ,get the crowds like London, But you do get the camraderie from other runners, Which is great andi think better. (many thanks to every runner that i talked to that helped me get round, Particuarly the man and woman from BDRC that were with me almost to the end!-If i lived closer i would return, But as it,s a 230 mile round trip, I,m afraid this was probably a once and once only event for me-Looking forward to next Sunday putting my feet up and watching London, Without the usual disappointment of not getting in, Thanks to this event-Thank you once again Black Dog Running Club-You should rightly be proud of this event!!! :-) Date of review: April 15, 2013

In short: Hard,Hot, Hilly and Fun In full: This is a great race. The organisation is superb, course is tough but fun and the support is terrific. It didn't help that it fell on the warmest day since September but that's life. All in all its well worth doing. Date of review: April 14, 2013

In short: A undulating start to each lap but a great marathon overall! In full: This was my first marathon and had read some poor reviews of it for previous years, however I was pleasantly surprised. It was very well organised, the half marathon starting half way through was interesting and certainly added to the atmosphere. The facilities were good, I placed my own bottles around the course using the official system which worked very well, the marshals at the water stations watched for us coming and had our bottles ready to hand as we passed. For a relatively small race there was a good amount of support around the course and cheering on the marathoners in particular (we had different coloured numbers to those doing the half). Good support at the end of the run with plenty of people to help you find your way through the finishing gates and goodies. All round very good friendly atmosphere. A must do race! In short: Well marshalled and a good atmosphere. In full: Might have been a better second half if I hadn't tripped over on a gravelly pavement (must have just caught my toe) and got a few grazes, however I soldiered on and managed a reasonable 4:44. Hills not as bad as expected. I will probably be back next year. Good local brew pub nearby too. Date of review: April 20, 2012

In short: Very Well Organised and Friendly Race In full: I was very impressed by the whole event, a friendly, well organised race with some fantastic community input from local groups including the Air Cadets and Rotary Club to name a few. 1) Got my number on the day - excellent 2) Secure Bags - Bit confusing but OK 3) Marshalls - Fantastic 4) Drinks stations - everyone stop whinging about the cups, there were plenty of drink stations you didn't need bottles. 5) Parking - Brilliant Well done all of you, we could learn a lot from you Date of review: April 17, 2012

In short: Excellent organisation. Starting the half and the marathon a couple of hours apart works well. The first half of each laps is undulating followed by a flat second half. Excellent support in pockets around the course. The goody bag was excellent. Date of review: April 16, 2012

In short: 2 laps with several hills!! In full: well organised and friendly, not to many competitors which was nice. this was my first marathon so the smaller numbers suited me. the course is 2 laps with hills in the first few miles and again at about 14-18. i had been warned it was hilly and a good challenge. how true! if you fancy a challenge then its worth a go. nice touch with personal drinks drop off but water in cups wasn't the best, for a marathon bottles would be better. smaller numbers meant picking up numbers and timing chip on the day wasn't a problem.
